Well Well guys it finally happened. I've put almost 1100 miles on the bike since I got it (not 2k. I rechecked my odo and put it against the original bill of sale) and after many days of being a motogp wannabe and slinging this girl around with my crotch, I finally dropped her.....while parking......FFFFFFMMMMMMLLLLLLL!!! Was parking on a slight incline and engaged the sidestand....as I went to get off the bike moved ever so slightly....so slightly. .. that was it. She was like"fook you kid I'm too fat for your shit" and went sideways. I tried to grab it but suddenly the true weight of this bike has finally shown. I stopped half the fall but once the bike bars were perpendicular to the ground my grip broke. I was SO pissed..... now shes scuffed up and I'm tearing....what can I do here??

Red reflective tape over it. And match it on the other side. That's what I'd do.

I think touching up with paint it's hard to get a good finish.

Red is probably one of the hardest colours to match. But there should be a paint code on your frame if you remove your seat. Get the right touch up paint. There are after market suppliers who apparently are a pretty good match but far cheaper than Honda. Or you can leave it until you do this again. Very few here have not dropped their bikes. You will get over it.

And ya. the decal idea could be a good alternative. Looks like you will have to remove some of the burrs first and fill the gouges. That will show through decals.

Best deal on those gouges is to cover them up with graphics. Tons of those online. Doing that takes some prep too. There are furrows in your paint. I can see the black ABS plastic. The ridges are higher than the undamaged paint and can be smoothed over with 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper.. Before that remove the wax. If the bike has been waxed with real wax, paint thinner or alcohol will remove it. If the bike has been waxes with a polymer then use dish detergent.

Red touchups with paint are a bitch. Reds are transparent and they fade. Painting over a scratch or scratches as in the pic is best done over a neutral gray.

The applicators on the little bottles or tubes of touchup paint suck. Most are about as good as the brushes in a bottle of nail polish. BTW nail polish is great touchup paint...It's basically lacquer and applied with a good brush works well.

Brush touchups are never going to be perfect. Forget that.. With patience they can be well done including rubbing them out with fine compound. The touchup paint is best applied with a good brush from an art supply. I suggest using a natural bristle over a synthetic since at any point the paint solvents might be hot and will shrivel a synthetic. Brushes come in sizes as small ad 0000. Ya don't need something that Picasso would use nor do ya want to use some POS that wouldn't make decent whisk broom.

A good way not to do any of this is after 2-3-4 shots of espresso or one's favorite jungle juice. Another good thing is to use a mahl stick. Easy to make a temp.

There certainly is an abundance of "colodas." Cuban shot of espresso consumed here daily fer sure. Just dont mix it with your favorite Mexican brandy :drinkers:

BB, what the heck is a "Mahl" stick? Where you going for "match" stick??? AnywhOOOoo, I like the idea of vinyal graphics over the felt tip sharpie method, sad to say, I used to ride my Mach 1 with such improvisions... Cheers and happy Halloween...

Well I took your guy's advice. I rubbed the hell out of the affected area with scratch X to smooth out as much as I could and then I took a 1000 grit sand paper to smooth out the area.....that was an annoying as hell process. I'm gonna hunt around for some nail polish that matches the paint and hopefully go from there. Otherwise....gonna just throw a sticker of a black arrow....make it look like it's there on purpose.

    Hey Soul

The same thing happened to me with my 97 a few years back. My bike fell over when the kick stand sank in to the hot asphalt at a car dealership I was doing some work for. Here's a picture of what I did to help alleviate the discomfort. The damage to my bike looked near identical in terms of area damaged. I got a local paint shop to mix up some color match spray paint, but knowing that my ability to paint stuff was poor at best, I sanded and prepped the area and gave it a bit of a shot of color as best I could and then applied a decal. If you look closely at the area just ahead of the black strip on the left side you might just see the difference in color. The decal doesn't quite look factory but it sorta looks like it belongs.

    Nice fix Zoom.
Soul, you can get factory paint at Colorite.com. By the pint/quart, touch up pen or in a rattle can. They have the primer, color coat and clear if you want to try and re-finish yourself.

If evening out is needed as an eye opener, BB's famoso:

    Two full shots of espresso
    1 T Demerara sugar
2 shots of Bacardi Purple label rum
    Lemon twist.

Mahl sticks are sticks with a padded end used as rest when doing detail work mostly with paint. All the way from fancy to a chunk of wood dowel with an old sock full of another old sock all taped on with duct tape.

Try to avoid rolled up sox worn under tight pants (or leathers) by third rate guitar players or harleydoods.

Tech stuff.. The Sharpie markers are not what ya want to use. The keyword here is "permanent" On some construction sites even coming on the property with one gets an ass chewing and twice gets ya canned.

Cororite is also available in some NAPA stores as well as paints additives ect., by Martin-Senour. (Sherwin-Williams)

Their reds will be close ie, close to factory stock. A dead on match? Nope. Reds fade. Tech term is "fugitive."

There seems to be a theme here....no matter what gen. there are VFR's that have been dropped. and those that have yet to be dropped.

What? do these bad boys have a curse on them?

I have owned many bikes over the years and have NEVER dropped a one of them as many times as I have my VFR-four times in 3 years :mad-new:

Nah, not more accident prone, but they can be devious. Of all the bikes I have owned (all Honda's oddly enough) the VFR's have been the only ones that like to lie down on their own and have a nap in a horizontal configuration. My 97 VFR fell over twice in one year. First time, the side stand sank in to the ground and over she went, narrowly missing the side of a $60,000 Ford F350. Thankfully, it was only my pride and some small scuffs on my baby that required attention. The second time I thought I had learned my lesson. Hmmmmm, Not So Much. I parked the bike in the shade on a warm, but not really hot day (about 90 F), and decided that if one stand was good, two would be better, so I placed the bike on the center stand and came back a couple hours later. This time, both feet on the center sank in to the warm asphalt, and when it sank far enough to hit the center stand engagement bar, she fell on her right side. GOD. Oddly enough, I escaped this time with a scuffed side mirror, a gouged bar end, and a small gouge on the bottom of the passenger peg bracket. Seemed its decent was slow enough, judging by the amount of asphalt stuck to the center stand when I found the bike, that it landed very gently and did no real damage. I was astonished to find her lying perfectly balanced on the right mirror, the bar end, and the passenger peg. Didn't scuff the brand new exhaust, or damage the matching sticker that I had applied to cover the fairing damage from the previous sleepy-time encounter.

After that, I made a puck out of aluminum at a friends shop and carry it with me everywhere I go to place under the side stand. Knock on wood, my baby has remained in an upright resting position ever since. Maybe it is just the bikes way of saying, Hmmmmm, I'm bored, time for a change. Maybe some new paint, bar ends, mirrors, or a new exhaust to help me breathe better.

And we fix them, YES WE DO, cause we are all nuts and fanatics, YES WE ARE!!!!
