Backlash has begun

at least in NY state. I wonder how far and how big it could get. I've been dealing with the "Biker" image ever since I started riding in 75. It has gotten better thru out the years. Now this is a biggie at least in NY state.

Makes me kind of glad i live in a small town where the cops only hate me for my 4 wheeled antics.

Every couple of years something happens to start this bs up. Local, the squid crew shutdown the highway on Memorial Day (made national news) to do stunts and general dip-shitt-ery and it brought the heat. I don't ride in the city, only out in the country, and it's like every 2-3 years when they do a crackdown. Pulling you over for no reason just to shake you down. They'll check to see you have a MC endorsement, insurance, tags, inspection, run your driving record to make sure you don't have warrants. It really sucks.

 

Eh doesn't bother me, I live in Eugene, OR - if I'm idling in second gear I'm speeding here because of the moronic speed limits.

 

Must be nice to wield that kind of power. How nice would it be for a whole police force to be inconvenienced for the actions of just one or even 10 of their own department screwing up. Let "we the people" do the investigating. This is one hellofa knee jerk and the "uncle" needs to be furloughed w/o pay and investigated for these actions. Thankfully you guys in NY are either at the end of your season or pretty close to it.

yeah I second everyone else here, it's kind of like a fad, people will have a knee jerk reaction and think bikers are evil. But give it about a year or so we'll be on to the next drama.

Where I live there used to be news reports on one of my favorite roads due to all the squids and cops were out in full force. But now that's all died down but still I see bikers, nothing much changes. It's just our perception that changes.

 

Ya know. It kinda ticks me off. Regardless of what this boss says, to me it looks like that cop does not agree with the sentiment of his superior. He gave these guys a break even though he was told to come down hard on bikers. Now the guy, who lied about the camera being on, which really I don't give a rats ass about that, but he post it for everyone, including this cops boss to see.

I had a boss who tried to dictate my area of discretion once....and only once. I did not draw blood but his ears popped. He never tried that shit with me again.

This biker could have gotten that message out without sharing on video the world that the cop was giving him a heads up to share with his friends.

I say it a gain. The pharmaceutical companies need to spend some money on research for a vaccination for stupidity.

 

If this cop sees this video or gets ripped by his boss do you think he will give bikers a break again? I'm with you Randy, this guy is too dumb to know when he has it good. Do you really need a video to know that cops might be cracking down on bikers in the NY area?..........Really?

 

Good bikers in NY should band together and do a charity run for abused spouses, donate some money and make sure the local news puts it on tv.

A bad group of bikers started something years back and it blossomed into a huge all ride all type biker even called a Christmas Toy Run. I am all for a ride for another cause starting with us on the sportier type of bike, just to show the world, we are not all assholes. Just a very small group who give the rest of us a bad name. Kinda like how the actions of a very few cops caught on video gives that thousands of us all a bad rap.

Agreed, it is a good idea indeed...

 

Here in Houston we do a Santa ride or Christmas ride. This is where a whole bunch of sport bikes and some cruisers, decorate our helmets/bikes and go to malls and toy stores in the area and give out Christmas candy to kids and anyone in the area. Its kinda like what Randy does in a van year round, but we only do it once a year and its less creepy.

That's an admirable idea and in my opinion though it would be more effective to at least wave to kids in cars. That's something you can do all year round and just making one kid smile can do wonders for reputation.
