So, did your source have any more lying around?? My fairings are probably 85% from 10 feet. Would love the Euro colors.

Another couple of weeks of nothing happening on the bike except the accumulation of more parts. This time from Japan. The seller must have pulled apart a near museum quality bike (US 86 model and a ?85 NZ import), most of the metal bits have no sign of corrosion or any damage on the US bike.

I bought a heap of parts including a tool kit which is not only complete (down to the fuse puller) but has never been used - not one mark on it. An aussie dual headlight was another highlight of the auctions - one of the two the bikes looks to have been an ex new Zealand bike like my 85 model - except with dual headlight (mine was single).

Also got a Rear mudguard which would not look out of place if it came out of a box with Honda on it. On the list was a near perfect tail cowl and rear seat cover. The tail cowl is almost too nice to need repainting and a couple of original windscreens in excellent condition. The parts were cheap but shipping was a real killer.

I am amazed that someone would strip such a nice bike.

That's looks nice but I'd have to repaint the rest of the bike. My lower fairing was actually NOS but some warehouse monkey had dropped it on the nose and put a small hole just at the bottom point. Still, it was the nicest of all my body work, never having been mounted. The rest of it needs the work.

    Great thread-

I have an 86 1KR arriving in the morning, my first honda and I could not be more excited! These rebuilds really get the juices flowing and are an indespensible source of information for someone new to the bikes- thank you and great work!

It may be inspirational to you but it is too bloody slow for me (and I'm the one responsible here).

Will be spring in a few days and my mate (main riding buddy for country rides) with the F800ST (2007) and R80 (1995) keeps saying we should go "new" ride, "old" ride. Then reminds me "oh, you cant, your old bike is in bits". Lack of progress is starting to frustrate me. The last couple of weeks have been taken up with fitting electronic cruise control and the original Honda panniers onto the scooter.

Will not get a chance to look at the 1000R until the Wall to Wall ride is over and my wife forgives me for going.

About 5000km in 7.5 days will be a test of me (not for the scooter though, it will do it easily but then it is only 4.5 years old and I am more than 10 times that age).

Well back from the wall to wall ride (a month ago today) after 4600km on the scooter. Huge amounts of fun was had.
My only contribution to the 1000RE has been to go over it with ACF-50 to try to stall the rust and corrosion. I did score a nice new Arai RX-Q Freddy Spencer replica helmet off ebay to go with the RWB 1000R's. Nice and comfortable helmet too.
I have also discovered a genuine Honda choke cable which is within 2cm (longer) of the VF1000R cable. The alternate has the Teflon coating on the wire inner cable also. On the bike it will be indistinguishable from the original MJ4 cable.

I have the main wiring harness off the bike because it looks like crap. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good way to really clean up the harness?

Nothing, not a scrap of work done on it since before the wall 2 wall ride.
I have accrued a few more parts and stuff but that's all.

I did look at another 84 a few days ago with 30,000km on clock but it also had a bunch of issues.

I have 2 VF1000F harness units to clean up. They were Very Dirty.
So, I threw them into the Dish Washer, now I can handle them without gloves.
Only did One Cycle, but should have done a second.
Toss it out into the sun to dry.
    Yet to do;
I have to Brush them down on the lawn (Spring Project) with a soapy solution.
Then I'll use a weak Acid solution (CLR) and soft brush to do the metal terminals.
I'll Flux and Solder All Crimps, then Spritz with WD40.
Repair a few wires (Solder & Heat Shrink), lastly Armoural the whole Harness and into a Plastic Bag, ready for install.

Been slowly restoring parts from 2 Basket Cases, parts everywhere.
I've been trying to figure out a overheating problem, but I think you found it.
I'll have to clean those Water Ports Corrosion/Buildup on the motor.
Do you think it can be done by running an Acid solution through it?
Or it has to be attacked with tools?
    Thanks.

The dishwasher process works! But the down side is if your significant other finds oot, your gona be in the dawg house. Knew a doode that used to clean cylinder heads in the dish washer, adventually the unit became "un-fit for human use." True story, chemicals and ingestion don't work sometimes.

Think the doode was clobbered with a skilet by the missus...Nice idea with the plastic bag and amor-all...I do that with fish/meat/grey matter...:loco:

I really want to try the dish washer method but I'm put off by the thought of a long and painful death.

Found some more hoard photos on the shed camera.

    Man, that is hoarding!

I just watched THX1138 the other day. Looked like it was an updated version, different CG effects added to some backgrounds.

It's quite simple to build up a collection like this, just throw money at it, large amounts of money.
The more money, the less parts shortage.
