Ok, has anybody installed one of the disc horns? They are identical to the OEM horn but are appox twice the size and 118db as opposed to the 5db from the factory horn...

Where exactly did you stick it? I tried to just swap it out, however, it appears I can't do that without it pressing up against a rubber hose. Which makes for a VERY quiet horn...

Sorry, no pic. I'm using my iPad right now & it won't let put up any photos...

    I appreciate any advice offered...

I looked at putting one of the Screaming Banshee horns on my 03 and the suggested location is on the left side under the cowl.

I attached a Wolo Bad Boy horn to the original Horn mount, and it fit just fine. It's kind of tucked up under the the headlight assemblies, behind the forks, just in front of the cylinder head. It's definitely much louder than the stock beep, beep horn.

When I installed my Steble horn, I used that plumbers tape (aluminum) wrapped it around the top left side fairing stay and zip tied it a few times. Works great with out any prob goin on 3 years now. Wish I took pictures

That is pretty much what I did with mine. It's neat, tidy and out of the way and also keeps your horn out of the weather.

I did a rewire and replaced with a much larger/louder disc horn. I just built a bracket and mounted it in reverse. It sits just under the triple tree lower spindle.
It works ok, and the location is just ok, but there arent that many options.

General note - -dunno if you could do this with the stock linked brake gear in there.

For grins - at least on a 5th gen... The front cowl stay is a good place to mount a relay for the horn.
There's no interference when you reassemble....
--- Green wire and very lite green wire with flag connectors - stock horn leads
----- BIG red wire -- lead goes to a fuse and then to the battery
--- Painted red wire lead to horn.

The relay had an attached bracket on it, so it was pretty easy to drill one hole for a mount. Just added
a rubber piece for vibration resistance.

    Thanks everyone.
I just wasn't sure of the placement on this bike. My previous bikes had a lot less plastic on them, so I had a lot more flexibility for this kinda thing.

    Thanx again

Wow, interestingly enough I am currently in the middle of installing a Stebel Nautilus on my 5th gen today (a project which may last through the weekend.)

The 5th gen seems to have even less space under the side fairings, and I couldn't find a way to mount it all in one piece.

I took a tip from another tread here, and cut the trumpet off the compressor, tapped the trumpet's input hole with a 1mm thread, and found that a standard brass pressure hose fitting screwed in nice and snugly with the provided rubber gasket. Then I took some braided compressor hose, hose clamped it on to the compressor and fitting, and am going to mount the compressor on the right side and horn on the left, above the radiators. There will be much drilling, and velcroing, and zip-tying since I lack a decent hard mounting point for a mounting bracket (or said mounting bracket).

I'll be posting a proper write-up with photos after the project is complete.

^^^ I have seen a Nautius install that they did split the horn and the compressor. Mounted the compressor under the seat with the horn up front.

Ran a horn from a Dodge truck on the mach 1 91 for years. Just took off the stock horn and bolted up the truck horn.

In Europe the easy solution involves just replacing the stock unit with a horn taken from an old Alfa Romeo. Italians love loud horns and even base model Alfa's tend to have some of the loudest diaphragm horns so if you can ever find one in a breakers yard they will fit in the same space on a 6th gen.

    You do wear ear plugs?

All that doesn't sound like much of a problem except maybe running into an Italian who doesn't like loud horns.

But, do you think the soccer mom on the phone drifting into my lane would hear it...?

That's the best I can do ya short of somehow mounting a real diesel-electric locomotive horn on a bike. Pray that soccer-mama, if she doesn't hear that sound is paying closer attention at an actual crossing. The trains always win..

To answer your question, probably not.. it would interrupt, second guessing the coach, texting on one phone and talking on another, hair and makeups apps, correcting the kids so that they don't develop bad or dangerous habits, changing stations on the radio, watching the GPS screen instead of the road and reading the latest on how to prevent her buns from looking like Kim Kardashian's tail trunk.

My '64 Alfa 1600 Giulia spider veloce has dual Bosch horns, same as fitted on Benzes. Later models went to Fiamm i think.
