Hello everyone! My name is Dario, and i'm from Portugal (that weird thing along the coast of Spain), and bought myself a '99 800Fi. Rode a Thundercat for 3 years, but wanted something else. And also made a video of my fist ride in a day off. Love the handling of the vfr, much different compared to he 600R! (and i loved the 600R, power, and well behaved when treated with respect) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvMbgIqQaIw (720p) Sorry about the clancking, must tear apart the cluster plastics and find out what's loose in there Greetings to all, and hope to learn a lot here!
Get your official crest from Randy, oh and welcome . Sweet lookin ride there bro-remember ATGATT...all the gear all the time
Hello Dario :welcome: to the madness Great job by posting pictures of the bike :thumb: Glad to have you and please make yourself like at home. Ride safe and ATGATT
Welcome to the World. Sweet ride you have there. I see you are low in mileage so you have many years left in that puppie right there. Enjoy.
Yeah, she was kept away from the previous owner, and I think he drop her in the past. paint work is very new, in the sun, it can be seen marks from thin sand paper below the clear coar, the right side where the mirror is, vibrates a lot in low rpms, and the main reason for than suspicion, the central stand does not exist, because the lower frame where it goes, it's broken where it would be attached. this baby was delivered in a car dealer, and I think it was fixed there. flakes of paint in the bike, noticeable in the seat, and the rear tire haves red spray paint in the grooves. But overall, it's in very good condition, last week got 4 new spark plugs, and cleaned air filter, since it was a bit dirty. Sinchronized, and still haven't tested her for the mileage, to see if it's better, because got a back roblem at work, and have been in medical vacation at home resting. Will try to ride her next week, if the weather is good. I dont ride in the rain, got a car for that, and always use my gear, all times!
WOW! Red flags are everywhere on that one. Vibrations, damaged frame. I wonder what else the dealer did not tell you about. Sounds like that bike may be a rebuild. I don't know about over there, but where I live, and substantial damage has to be declared to a potential purchaser of a vehicle. Hope this bike works out for you there.
Here the legislation is a bit....... crappy about accidents and salvages. There aren't any. If it crashes, it fixable, and if sold, nothing to declare. the IPO (same as UK MOT) says if it's driveable, passes the test, bye bye and see you next year! They are trying to put MOT in bikes, but with no success. We pay minimum 60 smackaroos (Just for numbers) , the Vfr is 120 per year (considered luxury item to the IRS) for yearly circulation TAX, minimum 100 for insurance, and the price os gasoline is at least 1,5o per liter (but average price is 1,65€). They want to ban alterations in bikes when the MOT becomes mandatory, and the price is double of cars to do. Are they fudging serious?!?!? Sure it will be a more controlled market for used bikes, but until then, everything that stands straight driving, is enough. New bikes are way expensive, considering the economical crysis we are on now. So, despite those red flags, mechanically it was good for me, since it was only cosmetic damage, for rotating the bike in the central stand, breaking it, and sided on the ground. No rash on the engine from speed accident, just indicators of a drop. My thundercat lowsided almost stopped, and fixed it, and despite not noticeable, I gave the new owner all the info needed, including that. I was a honest seller, to a innocent buyer. Wanted to make sure for him that it was a good buy! So you see, it very complicated to find a good used deal, with a record of accidents, or registrations of any kind to see if permanent damage or simply repairing little stuff from the previous owner
Got me yesterday this: http://www.ebay.it/itm/HONDA-VFR-80...valletto-centrale-center-stand-/300980879162? probably next month arrives home. this concludes my trouble lubricating th chain when needed. Tilting the bike, rotating the tire un neutral by hand, doesn't work for me...
Good for you. I could't be with out my centre stand. While you are at the install of that, check the connection points on your side stand. Though it hasn't happened to me....yet..... One of the bolts on the side stands on these things are infamous for coming loose and then there your bike goes. Layong on its side.
Still alive and riding!! As she is today: Bough also a Givi rack, with case, ad traded the factory screen for a Givi one with a friend. Also bought for 1/3rd of the price this Titanium LeoVinci:
Hi Boss! I bought my first bike, a '99 last year. I think that makes us brothers. I just bought the European OEM screen and am going to take the Givi touring screen off, the opposite of what you did. I like your OEM screen because it is nicely tinted while ours is clear.
Mine was tinted, but from the previous owner, didnt seem to be factory tinted. Wanted the GIVI because I am a tall guy, and I get a lot of Wind resistance with the stock one.
