I don't think all of his advice was bad, even a broken clock is right twice a day. These message boards are full of a wide range of opinions, crap that is a total waste of time (tiger tiger) alot of good help and plain BS so let him have his say.

    The parts I agree with:
    Don't speed in school zones.
night time is harder to tell if cop or not.
Watch out for bridges on highways, favorite cop spot
Same with construction zones and curves
    Cops like out of towners
Scout the roads you want to speed on to find a clear one
Dont run from the cops unless you are prepared to red line in each gear.
If they get your license plate your done. Better to pull over and take fine instead of jail.
You better be prepared to hide 15 minutes to whole day (good chance you will have to)
Give cop silent treatment, answer with one word answers. Yes, no sir,
Pull over in safe area, wave to acknowledge you are aware of him.
When you are going to court, the judge is not your friend and will do anything to make you pay.

Joey, please send the Sham Wows to the address I gave you, just kidding.
    Tom

Crap, I hate when I get sucked into year old threads, nevermind

    Hey Jason,
Do you ever come down the 395 through Colville? This is one big speed-trap where the cops are far more concerned about revenue than your personal safety.I have seen so many cars with old couples driving them getting tickets for wandering over the speed limit a few mph.I've been getting gas and a coffee and seen the same jerk giving three tickets in a 10 minute span.

It appears that most don't agree with Joey's attitude and behavior but much of what he said is true regarding radar certs and keeping your mouth shut.I have gotten tickets and beat them by being knowledgeable of the requirements and limitations and requirements mandated.
The officer using the radar must show certification of the proper training with that device.
I would advise all to contest traffic tickets at a minimum.Chances are very good that the ticket will be mitigated to a lesser offense or fine.If you are local, I recommend going to court. What I have observed is the police usually don't show for court. Many times these are dismissed.
In my observance the couple of times I have been to court, the worst thing you can do is admit you were speeding but....... and then give an excuse of why. You've just eaten a ticket.
It's good to know as much as you can about radars and what police are supposed to do with them. You don't always have to be doing something wrong to get a ticket.

Ha ha, this thread is never gonna die

Thanks for the comments, and my original intent was just to provide my experiences with police and see if anyone had any good advice to offer as well. And a HUGE disclaimer is that I do not tolerate hooligan behavior such as the following:

    * Wheelies in rush hour with traffic all around
    * Passing in blind corners or even with cars going the other way
    * Riding 100 mph+ in residential neighborhoods

Seriously I hate the truly reckless riders because not only do they cause crashes they give the rest of us a bad name. The police officers you see replying to this thread obviously had one too many experiences with bad apples. If you look at one of their comments, they said I'm lucky for not crashing.... well, my bike is my FIRST bike ever and I've logged in almost 36,000 miles in less than 2 year span. And guess how many crashes I've been in? ZERO

For those police officers who say it's not all about the revenue that might be true for you but you can see from comments of other members here as well as my own experiences that some police officers are just revenue agents not safety officers.

And it's the same situation for us as well... you might see a rider going 20 over and immediately categorize him as the same kind that pass grandmas and split lanes at over 100 mph. It's a real gray area for us all and really, this thread is all about playing the "good boy" game so that we appear OK to the police eyes.

I was going to comment here again but I forgot to calibrate my mind this morning. I think it is only running at about 5 kHz today

Sounds like a squid with a deathwish. "here's how to escape the cops, and probably die, all in one fell swoop"... HEY :asshat:, I've watched cops P.I.T. maneuver a bike, they ain't playin' pattycake with you. they will chase you, and either you'll crash cuz ur tryin' to escape, or they'll impound, or better yet smash ur shit. Pull over, take ur ticket like a man. If you were doing something worth the cop takin' his time, energy, and paperwork to pull you over, you deserve to get caught (says the guy holdin' a $370 speedin' ticket as he types). Sometimes, the cop will be polite and let ya off with a warning, and sometimes he won't. Silent treatment ain't smart, answer Johnny Law when he's talkin' to you. Being respectful goes a lot further than being a disrespectful lil imbecile.

I have huge respect for the job these men and women do. If I was dickin' around and they caught me, that's my fault. You can't expect the fuzz to give you a break cuz you ride.

Obey the speed limit in residential areas, school zones, work zones, and the like. Everywhere else, ride like hell!

Maintaining 80 in a 45 when there's a car at a side street, is not too bright. Dumb riders die. Sad, but true.

City of Rock Island, IL (home of the Blues Brothers if you listen to the first album) has an undercover grey Honda Accord. LED lights on the sun visor & across the rear window, regular plates. Try to find that one in a crowd...

Took a ride down to the Eastern Shore of Maryland this past Saturday to go sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. I was told that once I enter Maryland, do not go more than 3 mph over the limit under any circumstances on the local roads, or I will get a ticket.

As stubborn as I am, I heeded the warning. Sure enough, there were po-po cars everywhere, hidden behind bushes, trees, fences, buildings, or intermingled with on-coming traffic. I didn't see this many on my entire 5,000+ mile ride a few weeks ago! If I hadn't listened, I'd have a speeding ticket.

Be careful on the Eastern Shore! It's a guaranteed ticket!

Oh man! They are EVERYWHERE now. I literally wait to look into the car to be sure they are a civilian instead of an unmarked, non-uniformed LEO. Only then do I feel ok about passing fast.

They are starting to get more clever up here too but not to the extent described by may members here. They are using plain cars and the lights are hidden inside the windows or behind the grill so a standard SUV could be the PO PO. That, the cost of fuel and the way our insurance rates jump if we get convicted is turning us into a bunch of sheep. I'm amazed that there are still accidents.

Mind you, it seems that the majority of Canadians (the ones I see anyway) don't think twice about using their phone while driving which is pretty irresponsible in addition to being illegal.

YAY!! What a great idea!! :pound: Are you listening, everybody else??

I hate it when someone posts HUGE pictures, and then the next guy hits QUOTE and posts "good ride..." ...but you get to see all those huge pictures again for his two-word comment.
