Whats up, VFRworld? You know what sucks? Dropping your bike sucks. Im prettt upset with myself. I was leaving a friends house just now whos "driveway" is mosly wet pine needles and gravel, and i dropped my freaking new VFR. I feel like such a newbie. I havent done anything like this forever. Luckily, i'm okay, and the damage to the bike is very minimal, but im still freaking pissed.

Anyway, needed to rant for a second to get out my frustration. Pictures to follow.

Nothing hurts worse than dropping your bike, ask me how I know. My best friend always told me when I first got in to biking that "First rule of owning a bike is that sooner or later it WILL fall over, but hopefully you won't be moving, if at all, when that happens."

Your pride will heal, the bike can be fixed, but hurting yourself can take a lot longer. Glad to hear that with the exception of your pride, you survived. Oh and the second rule my buddy told me was, "The second rule of biking is that you will have a crap load of fun on the bike." Time to get after Rule #2

Hope all goes well, and have fun riding.

We all feel your pain. The downside of having the freedom and exhilaration of a 2 wheeled vehicle is that they fall over, give yourself a good slap upside the head and try not to let it happen again.

Kevin - Don't beat yourself up. :frusty: It can happen to even experienced riders.

If you don't have proper frame sliders maybe its time to invest - as they can really help minimise damage to your bike and pride during a tip over or low-side, and if you can't get out the way should help prevent you being trapped under the whole weight of the bike.

Check the bike out mechanically and if its OK just get straight back on and it won't be too long before that VFR smile is back.

    :vtr2:

I disagree with that statement. Last weekend I shot a 1 1/2 inch flooring staple through my left index finger, right at the knuckle and I'm pretty sure it hurt more than dropping my Viffer. Well actually it didn't hurt for about half an hour but then it made up for lost time. :hss:

It is frustrating to damage a pristine machine. We've all been there at one time or another but eventually you get over it and just enjoy the ride without worrying about future bumps and bruises. This is one of the reasons I prefer used bikes. Someone already suffered through the "first scratch" and also the depreciation leaving only the fun stuff for me.

OK, OK, YOU WIN. Gawd, you're right, that just looks like it hurt. Probably hurt worse when you pulled it out I would think. Just a guess though.

I invented a couple of new swear words the last time I decided to chuck mine on the ground so I understand the anger.

You know when I was reading your post I only saw half the picture and I was going to fully agree with you till I saw the staple. The only part of the picture I saw was of the wedding ring..... OUCH that musta hurt a lot. lol.

Just like Toe my Tourettes kicked in big time but I had frame sliders on and it was more of a lay down than a fall but still SUCKs majorly.

Its not how you fall down that matters...Its what you do when you pick yourself up afterwards. NOW LETS GET OUT THERE AND RIDE!!!! :stickhorse: :cheer2:

The worst part was the swelling that prevented me from getting my riding gloves on. Last night I finally got to go for a short run with my new Scorpion helmet and it was bliss.

    BTW
Posting that picture was a pathetic cry for attention on my part and I have to apologize for that and the thread hi-jacking.

Thanks for the support everybody. Now that i've had some cool off time I'm just thankful that I'm okay (though my left hip is pretty sore this morning) and the damage to the bike is very minimal. Live and learn, I'm Excited to get back to enjoying my VFR.

Everybody has done it. From forgetting the kickstand at a gas station to your foot sliding on some gravel at a stop sign. Everybody's been there.

Glad you're ok. Glad the bikes ok. Enjoy it!

Yep that looks the exact same spot where they touch down.

Just a thought now. If you happened to mosey on over to the Europe sub-forum, and send a PM to that ever so nice guy Nessus then you might be able to persuade him to send you some of his exclusive VFRWorld European 1st Division decals. Thing is they are printed on a strong transparent backing which together with the text and logo means they largely obscure stuff beneath. Just apply them over the scratched paintwork and there is a good chance those scratches will be gone in seconds...

Yeah, gravity is not your friend when on two wheels, speed and momentum are though, so hop on that bike and keep moving forward! Just so you don't feel so alone, my '01 decided that it was going to lay down in the garage.

Fuggen newbs. Getting all upset for stupidity. Not once have I dropped my bike. NOT ONCE. I tell you. 9 GODDAM TIMES! I am just so over all that shame and hurt'n pride stuff. Matter of fact, I shot my finger with a pneumatic brad nailer like Jethro too but not as bad. Nail went right through the finger, I think missed the bone, but came through the nail on the other side. Couldn't pick my nose for at least a month.

Yup. First drop was like a week or two after I got the bike brand new out of the crate. Then dropped it a couple days after a brand new paint job. Then one time was down in Long Beach only a few days after I had the graphics put on.
