Went for its first real ride on the ebay bike I bought, only bad thing happened a bar end came loose and lost its bolt-went to a hardware store and replaced it-it works. checked-the chain-added a little lube, check tires-the old owner did replace them-they are ok. Heated the bike up in traffic-fan works. All in all-the bike passed my tests-I got a excellent bike-I changed the oil and filter puculator 3.5 inches long-a lot bigger than stock Honda, added 3.5 qts of Castrol 05-40 rt-looks close to full. Funny thing it very hard to figure out the right amount of oil to put in-I am between the two lines. I have heated grips they work. A steering damper would be nice as would sliders as would some light weight slip -ons-those exhaust cans are just too heavy and sound like a mouse! Oh the vtec works perfect. The old owner must have been a good rider and did take care of the bike. I put about 60+ miles on it today./ Everything works now:drum:

    Great news

I hope you are pleased with your purchase - I guess you know by now the folks on here really DO like photos...

Between the lines is fine for the levels - but keep an eye on all the levels. At least until you get a fix on what is normal make sure you complete your pre-ride checks. That way you should spot impending faults, so if you have a tyre(tire) slowly losing pressure you can investigate and find the cause before it leaves you stranded.

If you have never ridden a bike with the combined ABS system - then its well worth reading the handbook to understand the system - as knowing how to use it properly just might save your life. (From personal experience - in an emergency get on the front brake as hard as you possibly can as soon as you can - the system will do the rear. You will be astonished how quick a computer can make a bike stop!)

    Take care

It's always great to read positive news for used bike buyers. It kind of renews my faith in mankind (just a tiny bit) and I appreciate the time you took to share a positive note. Generally we tend to just hear about the unpleasant experiences while the majority of good news goes unrecognized.

I've bought a number of cars and bikes through e-bay and so far I've received a fair deal every time.

Oh and I think I speak fro everyone when I say that we are looking forward to your pictures.

Congrats! Glad to hear that its all working out for you.

+1 on keeping an eye on fluid levels & air pressure. At least until until you can determine what to expect from the bike. It's cheaper to check the oil, than to replace a dry engine...

    Enjoy it!!

    BTW :worthless:

Its got oil-I put in 3.5 qts-it had oil in it too when I drained it out and the tires have air and they aren't the stock tires either-metzers-Germany tires and good shape, I don't think they need air either-what tire pressure should they be set at-? they might have too much air. it isn't easy to check the oil -because it looks like you have to do it cold -only!

Tire pressure can be a fun debate... Honda says 36 Front & 42 Rear. I run Metzler Z6's f&r and have no problems at factory pressure. FYI- but a decent air gauge! It's amazing how far our the cheap ones can be...

With regards to checking fluid levels, all I meant was, just keep an eye on them until you know if the bike loses/uses them. Ie. drips, burning, etc...
It's new to you & you don't know what it's habits are like yet...

What I do to check the oil is, get on the bike and stand it up. Hanging on the wall I have a little telescoping mirror on a stick thingy that I bought at Pep Boys for $7 which I simply hold down by the oil window & have a look.

It's a good habit to get into. Oil & tire pressure are kinda my "pre-flight" checks

Tire manufacturers have websites with what you need to know about your tires. Your oil filter choice is not clear and the choice of viscosity seems random. Best IMO to stick with what Honda recommends.

If you have parts falling off, maybe go round the bike with some wrenches and drivers in hand followed by proper torqueing.

A pro tire guy told me that those stick type gauges are good for about 20 cycles and then it's downhill.. An analog with a bleeder and the cap at a right angle is only a few pesos more than one of the others. I hope this dude has downloaded the factory manual on his bike and is not guessing about things going by what he had or rode before. Blow one of those V4 engines and there goes the farm..

What....you planning to carve the picture in granite? JK of course. Enjoy the ride. Having a go around with the torque wrench is a stand up idea. We should all do that from time to time.

Do not torque those kittycats..or hammer them. Next, before you kill yourself guessing what to do next, download the factory service manual for your bike. Short of that adjusting the drive chain is easy and more than likely on UTube

Way too much sag in your chain just from the pix. WTF is that red wire? Looks like one of those gadgets that harleydoods buy that are connected to the spark plugs. If they start feeling sleepy out of sheer boredom they just grab the wire and it wakes them right up.

that's the heated grips wire-it does work-but not the best setup. Ya-I go to utube. I did figure out that air needed to go in tires-da doo. A little bit a time I will get the bike back in shape-at least I have one vfr and I am riding it loose chain In all-I done a hundred miles maybe:gun3::gun3::gun3::gun3::gun3::chairshot::joker:

One major problem with a loose chain is that it makes it difficult to find reverse. This is on page 173 of the factory manual.

Ok , I know how to adj the chain, but I need someone to help me get the bike up on the center stand-my barn isn't level and it could drop if I try there.

I think moving the bike to a level spot is going to be a lot easier than leveling your barn unless your barn is really small. We have big barns here. Some are level and some are not.

Moving right along... are those cats you have good mousers? We have barn cats here that are really great. We even have folks here that were born in barns. We call them Barnies. One guy is even named Barney Barnie. He is a harleydood and still sucks his thumb.

Right oh, I go to Tims Horten coffee ,lots of bikers there, so I will just bring some tools and get them to help get the bike up on the center stand-should take a few min to adj the chain. My Himalayan kittens are worth at least $500 each at chritmas time:hat:

Maybe you could trade some of those cats to some of those bikers at that coffee place to help level your barn. I figure if some of those bikers ride Harleys, you could get rid of the runts and the ones that are crosseyed. (the cats not the bikers) Lots of runts ride Harleys. Too many to deal with really.

Went for a short ride today, cleaned off some dust, checked the tire pressure again-air down 1/2 pound-tires are holding air pressure-got my tool kit out to adj chain-still have to get that done-I need someone to steady the bike so I can get it on the center stand./ I am not sure I need to lower the bike for 5.8 feet-I think it would help-I am going to have the seat custom made -see if that helps. I am beginning to see why this is such a great bike-much better than my old R6 2002.:kev:
