now don't go fuking with the wife!

Nope my freaking bro.in-law who is a Harley Rider talked me into it, feeding all this shit in my ear how they don't decrease in value and all. BS!! That and it was/is a beautiful bike. I have regretted the purchase many times since actually PS/ We never went to a Harley Dealer and I traded in a Honda Shadow all tricked out for the Harley-just saying...it was my first bike after a long hiatus. My Bike for many years was a 1981 GS 750 E Totally tricked out I will have to scan a pic. Won 1st place twice *in my class* at Harley Rally's Hehe

Are you fuking kidding me?? Sorry dude! you are completely wrong about that one-that is one reason I am selling it. Like the bike, don't like the BS that goes with it!

Note to self: Y the FuK entertain this Clown?!? :frusty:

Well...if nothing else I know the rest of you are enjoying the show! :fencing:

Of course it is silly to name a snake...

...everyone knows that ALL snakes are named Reggie.
(Per the opening scenes in the first Indiana Jones film)

Can't say I hate the bike but am dismayed at their owner who has too much $$$ to burn. But since it's providing jobs to some folks...

    Short story:

Guy in my club got hit on his bike and lost a foot. He was at the time the honcho of the Seattle Zoo's Serpentarium. About the same time mamma gorilla had two little ones and the flap started with a name the baby gorilla contest. Let your imagination run on this one...

So I ask my buddy Dana if he is going to name his snakes. Dana being a very large guy says, "Bill, snakes do not have fucking names!" So ended that story..

I think Genesis and Exodus have Cliffs Notes versions in case I get in trouble. ;)

Baum wrote something like 100 books and short stories. Never really read the the original "Wonderful Wiz.." c. 1900. but Baum was some kinda dude in his day.

I did read all of the ERB stuff and submitted a précis for an MA in American Lit. Even visited Tarzana, CA for insight. Tarzana lies smack dab in the middle of an old racetrack now long gone.

I guess I should read the original to find out if they really ate Toto.

True its not the machines fault, seems like Harley Riders are from 3 main camps.

Outlaws who only ride HDs & HD Customs as part of their image and a belief they own the road, New owners who have never ridden anything else before but have a big head " because they ride a HD " and real riders who are ridden many bikes before basically retiring on Harleys. Really it's the first 2 groups that are wankers, the last tend to be descent and courteous riders willing to yield to faster bikes.

The first 2 Groups can make themselves as cool as they like parked but what makes them Wankers is their " Thou shall not Pass " attitude through the twisties where they make themselves impossible for faster riders to overtake safely by sitting in the middle of the road on short straights, slowing down to a snails pace into a corner then accelerating flat out as they exit... If someone does get frustrated enough ( like a mate on a K1300s did once a couple of years ago ) to overtake the only place they can which is under brakes into a bend it's all boo hoo and hand bags at 10 paces with them at the next stop.

There are two more camps that should be included when Harleys are included. High and low.

I think everyone agrees it's not the bike but the attitude. When a Harley rider opens a conversation with "you ride that crap?" Knowing full well that "that crap" has more modern technology and innovation the his entire ride, it kind of rankles. There is a reason why almost evey motorcycle manufactures has abandoned the built up roller bearing crank but I regress. I like all motorcycles. I like the latest techno whizzbang to the old school British singles. Every bike has it's own unique charm so what's the point of running down other peoples choice of bike?

Since we have covered many of the same issues repeatedly, how about a different element of the debate?

How do people put up with the VIBRATIONS? I mean, when i had a Kawasaki Z750S it had a vibey issue from 4000-6000 rpms...it wasn't terrible but it bugged the heck out of me. And then I have ridden 5 to 6 KTM twins that have moderate vibration; I don't think I'd want to spend much time on them despite their other, fine attributes. But those kinds of vibrations would be hardly anything to a harley twin. I have watched the things shake at idle...wicked shakes...and i could not ever comprehend riding one. Why on earth endure that?

Do Harleys really have roller bearings? I thought they still used babbits. ;)

Harley did a good number on their pushrod flat track singles but those bikes are like the rest of the Harley racebikes and come from a different place in the universe. BTW pushrod singles aint all that great unless ya like wrenching on em as much as riding the bloody things. They look cool and sound cool and are cool but compared to an OHC half litre thumper for reliability and low maintenance they don't hold a candle.

And yep I know about Manx Nortons, Matchless OHC racebikes and Dick Mann getting in trouble with HD for having the balls to ride an OHC single.

Got a 78 SR500 mself. Bored out some, a head that I lucked out on and the bike has never failed or stranded me since I bought it new...

Most of the harleydoods round my hood have to put in their choppers before they start in on their spiels.. Somehow gum beating is not very effective when attempting to illustrate a point.

Vibration is vibration. If you really want to feel the vibe, take a putt on a rigid frame pushrod single sometime and bring along some Preparation H...

On a more modern bike one could have their audio system of choice on a loop playing "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys.. ;)
