I just got back into biking this past summer and got a good deal on a 84 VF750F this has been a great bike to get back into riding. However due to several factors I think I will keep this one as a occasional ride as an antique. No that I am hooked on biking again I would like to get a newer one. I would like to be in around the late 90's or early 2000's, and in the under 5k price. So I see a few bikes that peak my interest. Honda VFR800, Honda Fireblade, Yamaha thunderace, and the ninja ZX9. Several reviews list these bikes as sport touring rather than an all out sport bike. My only bike other than dirt bikes have been the VF750F and my former VT1100 shadow. I really like the feel and ride and sound of this VF750f. So the above listed bikes appeal to me. I ride a few miles on the highway but mostly just zipping around the city and going to work. I live in western Canada and our bikes tend to be priced higher than yours in the states. Any thoughts or other bikes to consider would be great.
If you just going to zip around town. You might want check this one out. Onswipe Fun great gas mileages and Honda reliability :thumb:
If I was a practical rider with no major touring plans in the market for a bike right now, there is only one bike I'd even consider: a Honda NC700X. Bike of the year in numerous magazines, including the only one that matters (Bike, the UK one). It's a torquey 700cc twin that *actually* gets about 90 mpg. Under seat trunk that holds a normal full face helmet, good ergos, honda, ABS? This is the best all-purpose bike ever made by the hands of a human. The tough part is gonna be finding one for your $5,000, which I would be skeptical of right now. Probably in the next year you'll start to see the first ones drop to the 5k mark (2012). Other than that NC700, I'd say go for a VFR, 5th or 6th gen. It's one hell of a bike, and you can score a beauty for $5,000. Hell, buy one in Seattle and ride it up to B.C. if the prices up there are too stoopid. Good luck.
