Just bought a 1990 VFR and have a question regarding the high beams.
There are two headlights that are both on when bike is running, when I turn the high beams on the left headlight turns off and the right one changes to high beam. Is this normal or should both bulbs turn to high beams? If so, I think the high beam filament on the left bulb is out.
    Appreciate the feedback.
    Thanks

The head light should be low/hi for both side. Unless the PO make some modifications.

To the best of my knowledge both headlights should be on for the low and high beams. My 96, 97 and my current 2000 VFR all have the dual front headlights and both lights are illuminated for both the high and low beam settings. I would venture to say that the same could be said for your bike. My guess is that you need a new headlight and I would recommend getting 2 new ones cause Sod's Law will dictate that if you don't change both lights, you'll be removing the fairing again to replace the other bulb not long after you replace this one.

you have a burned oot bulb. You should get these
    Honda H4 Headlight Bulb Shims

I used to clip off the tabs for 2 decades on my bike and these are a revelation for sure, no more mis-aligned bulbs and they fit TIGHT.

+1 to what Ridervfr suggested. I too have these shims and they work great and help to keep the bulbs from vibrating in the housing as well. Should help the bulbs to last a bit longer. Not to mention if you buy a newer generation in the future (at least up to 2001) you can use them in the 4th and 5th gens as well.
