Hello all. I just installed a Hyperpro rear shock on my '84 750 and its awesome. I've been riding the bike for four years now but it feels like a new bike. Anyone considering replacing the shock on a 1st gen should consider Hyperpro, or at minimum getting anything other than the stock shock underneath.

The shock is slightly longer than the stock version so it will increase ride height a bit and make the steering more agressive, no complaints here.

Yes, the Hyperpros are really nice. I've been recommending them for years. Unfortunately they are in the process of discontinuing them for the early VF's. If anyone is interested, they should act quickly.

Not really, the models for the VF's start at around $475. They are tons better than a Hagon or Bitubo and only $100 more expensive. Too bad they are going away as that is what I was going to put on the next bike I do. oh well, such is the life of a VF!

Yeah but still, that's a third of what I paid for my whole bike!

IIRC, you also have a lot of basic mechanical stuff you need to go over before you consider investing in upgrades, anyway. But once you get things to a good baseline, suspension is probably the best upgrade you can get. Cost is in the same range as new pipes, and suspension gets you a lot more bang for your buck.

Putting the Hyperpro shock on my bike is the most confidence inspiring upgrade I've ever made. With the stock shock, I felt like I was riding on top of the bike. Now it feels like I am working together with the bike.

I've been planning to replace my '84 with a newer bike next summer so the decision to invest $500 was hard for just one summer. However, the bike feels so good now I'll probably never get rid of it... I'm still adding a new VFR next summer though. I have a feeling the '08 VFR is going to be all new.

Well that's kind of true... I didn't think I had any mechanical issues until my valves started complaining though...

Hey Jamie, do you know how much longer these Hyperpro shocks are gonna be for sale? If they still exist in like July it might be possible, but I can't afford it now since I'm still in school and not working.

They are only going to be available until all parts are sold. The last I checked there was only one VF1000F/R shock left, I don't know about the 700's but I'm guessing it's about the same.
