Any thing you might need but don't want to fly with could be picked up or shipped to my place if you wish.

I suspect I don't need to ask but this bike has good rubber and chain?

well I don't know for sure. However the guy that I bought the bike from seemed very trustworthy the guy that I had pick the bike up for me doesn't really know much about motorcycles so he wouldn't be able to tell anyway. I did ask the seller and he said that he wouldn't hesitate to right across the country right now.

Beemers and More in Ft Collins should have anything needed for that bike if anything comes up.

You getting any snow in the higher elevations yet Tink? I am watching the mountain tops here but nothing yet. It has been down to 50ish on the valley floor here lately. Maybe colder. I would think that the summit on the Coquehalla is getting precariously close to snow by now.

For weather, go to the source. Plug in NOAA and type in the Zip Code.

    USPS site for zips..

Ambient temp ain't about nothing at speed. Windchill and hypothermia are the biggies.

Agreed. But you can dress for that. Snow just makes your ass pucker and not much you can do about that other than to park at the bar until it goes by.

Awesome. Well, it's an adventure, right.

I did pack my Aerostich and I have my balaclava and my snowboard socks packed.

The bike tires are a year old, have <2000 mi and are michelin anakee or anakee 2s.

The bike is also equipped with a wuka king which lets you adjust throttle based on ambient for better response at altitude. (I know, right)

I have a powerlet but I doubt I really need warmed gear at this point.

At this point, it looks like I'll make a go at the SaddleSore 1000 on day 1. Don't know if I'll try for the BunBurner 1500 or not. Likely, the decision will be based on how I feel and if I made the 1000 or not.

We shall see just how good the stock seat is. :)

Also I'm going to try this realtime GPS thing that Briang used:

    Where is Reg?

Or if it's after I meet up with Dave:

    Where are Reg and Tink?

Does that track you through your cell phone? And if so, is there a fee for that?

yes, and no. What they do is have your cell send a periodic update, then they use google maps and advertise with banners.

I should check into that. But if there are toll charges, I pay a fortune for roaming fees down there. I think my phone bill last time I was down was about $250.00 or something stupid like that. When I cross the border now, I usually turn the phone off until I check for calls.

I plan to have the SPOT running over the mountains where the cell will have spotty coverage.

I can do what? I don't ride in the fucking snow. Never had my whole ass pucker either. Tell ya what my friend, at freezing or near freezing temps that Aerostitch as good as they are (I have one) ain't gonna cut it. I suggest you take a look at any of a number of places that have mired nomographs or do the math by plugging in ambient temp and velocity. The minus numbers start showing up real quick.

If so inclined there is yet another factor involved in this when on a bike in the mountains. There is a general drop in temperature of -2 C /1K ft. of altitude. Then ya got the drop in the partial pressure of O2 with altitude that can seriously fuck with a flatlander.

yeah, I am not by any means saying I'll absolutely make it in one day. I will do my best to at least make it over the mountains on day 1.

I only have 3 days so I pretty much have to do 7-800 miles per day.

I wonder why google by default routes me through CO but if I look at the southern route I40, the distance is actually shorter?

Not sure I could stay awake on that route, though.

I think I'm probably still better staying in the middle on 70 so I have goals to reach like other VFRW members. That will break up some of the monotony. Does anyone here live in Albuquerque?
