Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I've lurked here on and off mostly for research while I've been searching for a 5th Gen to purchase. After several months of searching I finally found my bike and brought her home yesterday.

It's a 2000 with 17k miles and near perfect stock condition. It's my first VFR but I've been riding for over 20 years and also have a 2012 Harley Road King in my garage.

I've loved the VFR ever since the 750 Interceptor was introduced in 1986. Took me a few years but I finally got one. Just for reference I'm in my early 40's.

:welcome: to our little world MJ
Congratulation on your new ride, yes the 2000 yellow is a favorite for many members here. I am sure they will chimp in and brag about it soon. Ride safe and check the stator and RR to make sure she is healthy.

Thanks for the welcome. I knew about the stator and RR issues thanks to this very forum. How exactly does one go about checking them?

Thanks for the welcome. How long have owned your green machine? I've only seen the green in photos but I think I'd like it too.
I'll be interest in how the install for that R/R goes for you. I'm now wondering if I should do the same to avoid any future problems. The whole issue still confuses me a bit.

I got mine in April. Haven't done real riding just yet due to sucky work scheduling . Hopefully next year. I just love this bike. Quite a step up from my old Vf500. My R/R haven't giving any problems yet but just as a precaution I want to upgrade & apparently some forum members say the Rick's kit make the engine run better due to better/stable voltage

Looking good. What windscreen is that? I also like the high pipe I want to do the same thing. That green reminds me of British Racing Green, now it needs a tan leather seat

I got in a two hour ride today, just some local backroads, before the rain started dumping.

Welcome to the WORLD and congrats on the new purchase. As already mentioned the R/R replacement is more of a WHEN you will have to do it as opposed to an IF. There seems to be little warning, if any, that things are about to fail. The MOSFET ones seem to be the best choice and there are numerous places that offer kits. One of the members of VFRD (think he is a member here as well) runs a site called Wire My Bike and he also sells a kit for VFR's of all generations. Wiremybike also sells the VFRNess (which you may have heard of if you have been searching around much) and it also helps by adding some beefier wiring to offset the factory charging circuit and is plug and play.

As Scubalong mentioned, use the link he provided to help check the charging system. Many VFR owners, including myself have suffered the indignity of a failed R/R and SODS Law would dictate that when the R/R fails it will be when you are far from home.

Another option you may want to consider is a new rear shock. I purchased an upgraded CBR929 unit from Jamie D. At Daugherty Motorsports - Motorcycle Suspension Performance and Modification and WOW what a difference. Honestly the best money I have spent on the bike to date.

Ride safe and don't forget to keep her shiny side up.

Thanks for the tips. The R/R issue is bothersome to me. I'm researching and trying to make a decision on that first thing.

I'm over 6' tall so my first ad ons will probably be taller windscreen, lower pegs and helibars. After those I'll start looking at performance options like the shock and exhaust. I bet that CBR Unit is nice.

Thanks. I do love the yellow, which seem to be quite popular here.

When I got my 2000 I did the whole RR thing as a "preventive" piece of maintenance before a big trip. I went with the kit from Roadstercycle.com as mention in a post above and have not had a single issue. The voltage is always rock steady and I have complete confidence. It was the first thing I did to my bike and IMO it is a wise investment :) After that I did the Daugherty motorsports suspension front and rear and it's like a new bike, hehe.

Which style did you get? It looks like there are two options one with a Circuit breaker the other has Maxifuse.

Mine has the fuse...that was the only option when I bought it. I solder direct to the stator wires too. Easy install and works great!
