Hi my name is John. I am waiting on delivery of a new 2013 VFR 12 in a couple of weeks. I currently ride a 2008 FJR 1300, a 2012 ZX14R and a 2003 HD Superglide. looking forward to the new VFR. I have owned one other VFR (the original year VFR 1000) in the 1980's. Hope to make some new friends here.

    John

Welcome aboard, wonder if you will be able to find any family resemblance to the VFR1000.

Traded my FJR in on the new 2013 VFR. I have had two FJR's (2005 & 2008). Both were great bikes that gave me no problems. Dealer called today and said the new VFR would get here Wed. or Thurs. this week. Longer delivery than anticipated but it turns out Honda only had two 2013 VFR's left in US warehouses and mine had to be trucked from the west coast to southern Indiana.

Welcome, would love to hear how 1st and 2nd feel on the 2013. Let us know how much if any Honda is still holding back.
    Great choice by the way.

You have asked the question I could not find the answer for. When Honda added traction control on the 2012 did they remove most or all of the 1st & 2nd gear restriction. I will have a objective answer for you guys in a month. I intend to dyno test my 2013 after break in including a 2nd gear run with it stock. We will then add the Bazzaz Zbomb and repeat the 2nd gear run. After that it will get a full dyno tune with PC5 & Akrapovic slip on.

I can't say how much if any of the 1st & 2nd gear restriction is still there in comparison to the 2010 bike but I know it is still restricted. I picked up the 2013 yesterday and put a hundred miles on it. Felt like a hesitation for several hundred RPM when you whack the throttle open in 1st & 2nd followed by a sharp transition to higher power level. Acceleration was about the same as my FJR 1300. Came home and installed a Zbomb and went back out riding. Nailed it in 1st gear from a roll starting at 3000 RPM. No hesitation and when it hit 6000 RPM the front end lifted off. The traction control immediately spoiled the fun. Did the same thing two more times. Turned the TC off and the bike will do nice controlled power wheelys in 1st gear.

I don't need a dyno to tell me this bike is still restricted in 1st & 2nd and the Zbomb gets rid of it.
