I recently had a dead battery and when troubleshooting found the 30amp circuit was hot, way hot. So it was time for some electrical love. While I had it apart for VFRness install and cleaning of every connection I could find I installed a ADV voltmeter. Made a aluminum bracket out of 1.25 flat stock bent at an 20 deg angle. Attached the bracket to meter with black RTV and same to the inside of dash. Not perfect location but ended up pretty clean and no holes drilled.

Very buff, and the flashy photo colors make it look like the the amusement ride it is.

Dija test the charging system after you put in the new battery or just assume you fixed the problem ??

Wow, how do you read it upside down like that?...j/k At 11.8v not running obviously (tach is at 0), what does your meter show when at idle and at 5k RPM?

Service manual calls out for fully charged battery to be 13.0v-13.2v and that 12.3v is under charged.

i found that tapping into anything except directly into the battery showed 0.5-2.0v low. be sure to double check the gauge out put with a known working meter hooked directly to the battery.

I did test the system after install of the VFRness and looks good and wiring is cool as ice now. The voltage appears low because its not running and you can't expect the voltage with full load of headlamps etc. to be same as " fully charged at rest". The battery is about 12.6 with no big current draw. Voltage at idle is 13.2 and 14.3 at higher rpms.

Hey Candy Red, I bought My '07 in Sept. of '08 and am now pushing 20K miles. I am having zero problems. When did your issues start showing up? Am I in for a big surprise? (I probably should have kept my mouth shut...now I did it!)

Right around 20,000-25,000 miles. First thing was the factory stator and rr. Then around 30,000-35,000 my blue connector went out. Then around 38,000 I lost my compurfire rr and another stator. Right after I fixed that at around 40,000 my main fuse went out and a few months ago at 45,000 miles I lost the connection in between my main harness and ignition key/switch. Next up is that fuse block next to the battery. I am sure thats gonna burn up eventually.

Whether or not you garage keep your bike, ride in the rain, ride in really hot stop in go traffic or ride extended high rpm long trips will determine how long those components will last. If you pamper your bike, keep it in a climate controlled garage, on ride on sunny weekends, shift at 4000 rpms and cruise at 60 mph you may not have a problem for 100,000 miles. every bikes different and I daily my girl hard, rain or shine. Shes been good to me, and none of these problems were big deals once I actually found them.
