I did it twice in one day on my Duc. It used to have an automatically retracting kick stand, but I was afraid that some dip shit would try and sit on my bike and not realize the kick stand would automatically retract, so I modified it to stay down unless I manually raised it (changed out the pivot bolt)...long story short I forgot about doing this and low and behold "Bam" kick stand hit the ground when I started rolling, but I stayed upright, happened again after stopping for lunch! Most of the newer bikes turn off the motor when putting the bike in gear with the side stand down, so now you get to look like a squid when you keep stalling your bike out when putting it in gear with the stand down!

Ducati solved this issue by installing a retract spring so the stand flipped up all by itself as soon as you stood the bike up. However this created a new problem because people had difficulty holding the stand in the extended position while they tipped the bike over and got off. Guess how many ducks hit the turf? Lots!!! The cal it a suicide stand for gods sake. :hss:

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Oh and if it doesn't tip over on you because it retracted, it simply collapses because it is under built. The weight saving measures have gone too far here boys!

    Back on topic,
Isn't the snubber supposed to prevent a crash resulting from a forgotten side stand? Wouldn't removal of said snubber invite risk of a future incident? I'm just wondering what you are thinking as the snubber seems like a good idea to me. :potstir:

That was up at Palomar, brand new 848 with what appeared to be a rookie rider too! All of us there thought for sure this was going to end up on the side of the road!

So which bike are we addressing today? There are different styles out there. Some of them have to be replaced with the holder and others have a spacer in them that may prevent you from pulling it out.

    GOT 'ER DONE !!

Thanks for the suggestions. Used PBBlaster and a sharp screwdriver to get lube around the stub and pliers to pull it out.

Good job, but I'm going to have to write you up for improper use of a "sharp" screwdriver. Now get back to work.
