So there i was in an off ramp corner when I suddenly was powerless literally. Turned the kill switch off and on and power back up. Took it home started looking at the obvious spots for the little gremlin. Started it up looking for anything and noticed a light intermittent smoke coming from the starter solenoid. And this is what i find. FYI honda only sells the harness as a whole and not just the connector. So I'm waiting on the harness and the starter solonoid. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Didn't know there was one. Is there a way to find out about the recall?

You should be able to just take your bike to a dealer and they will run your VIN. It will say whether all the recalls have been addressed.

Well it's down now and I don't have a trailer. Called dealership and am waiting on their response. Since I ordered the harness today I may end up cancelling the order. Hope so then ill save some money.

You should be able to just read off your vin to the dealer and they can run it for you. For the life of me I can't see what the problem with that would be. I would make sure that is done first. You may be off the hook for the cost of replacing it so the little effort to call it in, is definitely worth the time.

It was on pre-2006 6th gen viffers. You should be able to call up Honda and they will tell you. I have heard that they put a punch out on your VIN sticker after it is perfomed.

It looks like corroded connectors may have been the culprit. That's why I preach the use of dielectric grease. If you don't end up changing the harness, make sure to have a good look at the RR connector.

My red connector looked like that too after my relay failed. I just cut off the red connector and crimped on 4 new connectors and stuck them on the new relay. No problems yet.

If the lousy dealer won't respond, call Honda America or whatever the hell it is. The last thing any manufacturer wants is injury resulting from a defective product. When it comes to recalls, most auto/bike manufacturers don't fuck around.

So I replaced the starter solonoid and looks like the connection for the R/R and sator are burning up again. So through the process of elimination I have a short somewhere. I got a wiring harness off a wrecked vfr same year and today I am performing brain and spine surgery on the ol girl. Wish me luck.

    Good luck.

In your case, it looks like the starter relay was the prime suspect all along. On your first attempt, you had changed the RR without checking the relay connector. A common rookie mistake. The troublesome starter relay was on it's way to destroying your new RR, when it died trying.

Once you get those two connectors repaired, I'm sure it will all be good again. Make sure you fully charge the battery before starting it up, when done. We wouldn't want a weak battery to try starting the whole process over again.

The battery is on my bench with a trickle charger. I'm not just fixing the harness I'm replacing it. Took about 1.5 hours to untangle and remove the old one. I'm almost done installing the new one. Once done the stator and r/r wires are getting a dose of solder and shrink wrap.
