    Hi ,

New to this year VFR and forum.

Need some helpful advise from those of you in the know. Looking to possibly pulling the trigger on a 2007 VFR800 w/abs. Low miles 13k. Anything I should be looking out for when checking it out? Plan on test ride of at least an hour. Possibly having a mech check it out as well.

Any hidden cost associated with this year? Any years better than others?

Any and all help is much appeciated.

    Chris

07 is a solid model, check for maintenance record and if your heart tell you she is the one then pull the trigger. What is the price?
BTW :welcome: to the madness

A few weeks afetr I bought my 5th Gen second hand, I couldn't adjust the chain.
Turns out where it hadn't been looked after the rear wheel hub had seized solid. Took it apart and cleaned it all. Then it ended up with me taking the swingarm off as the bearings were all shot.
Not all bikes are like this, but one thing people miss when looking at a bike are things like head bearings and the like.

Pull the bike up onto its centre stand and make sure the front moves freely, then see if where the swingarm meets the suspension is nice and clean too.

Price sounds nice but i'm working out the doller to pound ratio in my head, and it hurts.

The 2007 and on ABS models are pretty solid mile munching machines. At that low mileage I would not expect any technical issues, but if not already replaced, it will be coming up to needing new tyres(tires). If you can get them to throw in a full hard luggage set (not cheap) the bike is a brilliant long range tourer.

Officially the bike will be due its first vtec valve check - a fairly labour expensive procedure - which rarely if ever reveals they need adjustment (especially at the first check), and as a result some have chosen to defer until the next scheduled interval. If the vendor is a garage you could use that to argue down the price (as a looming bill) or just get them to do the check for free and mark your service record.

Lift the seat and note the date and paint code shown on the label by the tank - this shows the actual year the bike was built, as it may be registered some years later. There is a list of paint codes on here - but note red is always the fastest:potstir:. Whilst the seat is off, check the tool kit is present and its contents - at the very least you will need that weird C shaped spanner and cranked extension bar to adjust the chain tension. Most of the other stuff is rarely used.

If you can get the bike for $4k (just 2,500GBP) that bike is a steal.

Ok, Missed the first one I was trying to pick up. Found another 2007 non ABS unit. Wish it had the abs though. Very low miles. Lets hope this one works out. What rear shock would be a wise choice to switch to? Going to put Heli bars on it first thing. What year Staintunes are compatable with an 07?

    Thanks

    So a set off of a 2003 would work right? 2003 being a 5th gen bike ?

    Thanks

all good advice. welcome. 4500 is cheap for 07. Best looking 6th gen IMO.

I went with Penske rear and racetech internals on front. Night and day better than stock. No wallowing in curves. Penske is modular so can actually go with you should you change bikes (probably won't happen with an 07 though).

There are several other option if your wallet can't handle aftermarket. Lots of people grab better unit from CBR 929 I believe, but if you search through here you will find lots of messages about it.

Staintunes are good pipes. Browse around for people trying to sell off their 6th gen and maybe one of them has staintunes that he'll part with allowing him to drop the price on his 6th gen and still get as much money.

yes, 03 would work, but no 03 is not 5th gen. 5th gen is 98-01. 6th is 02+ until the 1200 came out in 10 I think.

Scubalong, Do you find your Staintunes get hot enough to effect the palstics in the tail section ? Melting or discoloring of any kind ? Put mine on and seems pretty hot back there. Thinking about using the heat shields from originals on them.
