So should Reg flash his roll and offer the guy $7500 ? A really slick move there is to wrap a hundred around a bunch of ones giving the impression ya really mean business. The problem with that is that the bike is in Reno and every third dude feeding a slot is doing the same number and wearing polyester and a Walmart faux Stetson.

Well the real problem with Reno is that the bike has such low mileage. The dealer says I'd have to register it to someone in Nevade until I get past 7500 miles due to CA emissions laws or some such. I thought all the VFR 1200 met CA emissions standards, not so?

I do have a sister in law from Cali that owns a house in Reno. I wonder if she could register it there even though technically she is a Californian.

My wife is of the opinion that if it's the right deal it will happen easily and I won't have to jump through hoops to make it happen.

That's the way it happened with the last VFR and it worked out well.

I think you are correct and the dealer is mistaken. This from under the seat of mine...........

Last line says it all I believe.

You are correct. I called him back and asked him to look under the seat. He came back and said I was right. He then told me that another dealer wouldn't take it in CA and that's how they got it and he had probably told 20 people already that he couldn't sell to California. Now I'm trying to talk my wife into helping me figure out a way to get it before someone else does. :)

Although I don't know that anyone ever got an OTD price from Al Lamb. I don't know if it's worth $500+ more to Reg to get a brand spanky new one, vs a used one. Kind of a personal decision.

Hey Reg, what kind of slip-on is on that one in Reno? Only reason I ask is because if for example it were a Two Bros, well, they're fairly inexpensive anyway. You can buy them off Ebay all day long for under 5 bills depending on the can material/finish. But if it were say an Akro or a DAM or something expensive like that, it might affect the "value factor". Ya know what I mean? A slip-on install is quick and easy. Just food for thought.

DD, if the Reno '12 is in near mint condition and still has a good portion of the warranty left, it will likely be the better deal. Dallas is a long way from Calif, and for new bike sales, I believe the buyer has to sign papers at the store. You'll have to add a plane ticket to the cost plus the logistics to get the bike back to CA, whether riding or shipping.

Does not hurt to make a few phone calls just to check though.

Don't mean to interfere but one thing doesn't sound right to me:
If that was the reason, why did he take it? Can he recuperate his investment enough by selling to another state? And if so, why didn't the others do the same?

Dunno, sounds a bit iffy to me to be honest, unless I'm missing something.

Following most of this "advice" from the "experts" sounds like the only thing that will be missing are big pesos from Reg's bank account or maybe the engine is missing too.

He said the PO was wanting a Victory, went to Victory in CA but had OK tag as he was a Vet. CA Victory dealer used to typical CA sportbike regs did not look it up for himself and let the sale go to Reno Victory dealer. Their loss.

Well, after sleeping on it, I decided to wait. I am just not ready to commit to having payments. I'll keep saving my money and see what I'm in the mood for when I have more cash. Scratch still hasn't made it to 100,000 miles yet...

A Victory, that's what I missed. Thanks, it makes more sense now.

Ah well, not to worry, they're not going anywhere. From the sound of mine, it'll do 100k miles easily. Not with me on it but the next owner will be a happy bunny I'm sure.
