Score! 8 spoke rim BLS peg lowering blocks!

A few weeks back I lucked into an 8 spoke rim on ebay and a set of lower blocks from the classifieds on here. The rims were pretty rough looking, so I knew I was going to have to blast them and have them powder coated. This gave me the perfect opportunity to shange the rim color from black to the silver/pewter that I always wanted on my VFR.



Poor thing had been neglected for years! But I soon took care of that:



After getting both the new 8 spoker rear and my original front back from the powder coating place, I had the tires mounted and balanced (sort of). I had to go with Dynabeads since there was no place near me that had a balancer that would work with my wheel. Seems to be fine, but the tradionally static balanced front is definitely not balanced correctly. I also took this opportunity to clean my front calipers and buff every bolt and my axle on the front. I had some issue with the rotor rubbing on the caliper on the left hand side because I did the re-installation process out of order. I have decided that I am just going to put Dynabeads in the front as well because I don't feel like taking the front off again!

I also put the lowering blocks on. The necessitated the lowering and adjusting of the shifter arm and brake pedal. It took some tinkering, cussing, and some cutting, but I got everything where it should be.

I have to say, this is the bike that I saw in my mind when I first bought my bike. It just took me a year to get her there!

I think that looks like shit. Tell you what. Send that rear wheel out to me and being the good VFRW brother I am, I will send you mine. It is already pewter coloured so your won't even need to re-coat it.

Isn't it just heart warming to know there are still people here whose first concern is for their VFRW brotheren? Kind puts a lump in your throat doesn't it?

 

I would've gone for a white powdercoat, but that's just me.

 

Not a fan of the white personally. Not to mention they would be impossible to keep clean with all the brake dust!

Love that wheel....tell me....what year or years did the VFR come with the 7 spoker?

 

The 7-spoker was only available on the '68 Beetle. Along with the dual Dellorto carbs.

The 8 spoke was standard on the '90-'93 3rd gen VFR. It's a direct bolt on to the '94-newer bikes afaik.
