Hello all, I just finished a 2 month ordeal, I disassembled, sanded, primed and painted my Interceptor. It was all worth it, to be able to sit back and enjoy. I also did an oil change, air filter and plugs, as well as a new rear tire. The previous owner got it painted a nasty green, the tank had a dent it it and it was looking bad. I painted it black. The air bax had a mouse nest in it the oil was reddish black and the plugs we all burnt. That being said it ran fine last year. It runs 100 time better now. By the way I only paid $800.00 for it. let me know what you all think. the pics are in the members area just look up 1985 VF1000R.

It looks really good. Black definitely looks better than green. I had a VF500F parts bike last year that had a mouse nest in the airbox as well and when the mouse went to the bathroom, it went right down into the cylinder. Needless to say, I ended up not using the motor.

Thanks Stew. LAst thing I need to doon it is decide what kind of grafix I want to put on it. Painted or decals. My cousin owns a custom bike shop and builds choppers. I'm gonna let him do the grafix. I am going to take it out this weekend and open her up a little and stretch her legs.

It would be really cool if you could come up with something that tied it back to its original RWB color scheme. Make sure you let us know what you decide on.

I thought of doing the scheme in silver and a gray kind of a monochromatic RWB.

FYI - The VF1000R is simply that, a 'VF1000R'. It's not a 'VFR' or 'Interceptor'. I'm really anal about those kinds of things so I just HAD to point it out. They are both really common mistakes though.

Personally I think the only way an R should be painted is the original red/white/blue scheme. Yours looks pretty good in black I must say. Nice work resurrecting one!
