I've had my '98 for almost a month now, & got about 42 mpg on my first tank. Second thru 4th tanks, about 45-48 mpg.

On my latest fill-up, I averaged 52 mpg. Riding included 45-80 mph stints, with a few short blasts up to 130 mph.

I've not seen anyone else post about getting this kind of fuel economy. Am I running lean? Should I be concerned?

What kind of fuel economy are YOU experiencing?

I have had as high as 40 mpg on my bike when running mixed city and highway. Most of my riding in town involves stop light to stop light driving so I'm sure that pulls the mileage down a fair bit. The times I have had it on the highway I've seen in and around the 48 mpg mark.

I have had mostly 43 mpg on mixed city riding and when I am on the gas harder during aggressive rides. I can get up to high 40s with a gentle right wrist. The biggest impact on mileage I find is my right wrist.

Around town 38 mpg to around 42 mpg.
On motorways sorry...highways :potstir: I have been able to get about 48 to 52

I've seen people saying they get about 32 to 35 mpg but they must be revving the nuts off the poor beast.

Flks should just make it easier on themselves and just use mph and gallons... Then there is no need to convert anything..

I'm using the English kind lol I think American and English litres are different amounts. Therefore gallons are different. Not just the spellings!

I seem to be able to get 50MPG without trying to hard but everything out here is mostly flat and straight, lol. I think my speedo is off too so realistically I would say high 40's easy.

We tried using that stoopid metrik system here in the USA, but it was stoopid so we stopped using it. :)

Uh Oh - GrannyRabbit is worried about his awesome gas mileage.

Head up here, TNR. We'll get you out on some backroads where you'll never get a chance to get out of 3rd gear. I promise we'll keep your MPG below 40.

On the past few tanks of fuel, this is what I got, and it includes a 700 mile round-trip to Indiana, two-hour traffic jam in Indianapolis, and some backroad blasts near Little Nashville, outside of Bloomington:

    830 miles / (3.2 gal + 4.3 gal + 4.6 gal + 4.6 gal) = 49.7 smiles / gallon

I ride almost exclusively in heavy city traffic as a daily driver and admittedly rather aggressively. I average between 29 - 34 mpg on 89 octane or better fuel. I've come to accept the low numbers in exchange for the thrills of hard throttle response.
    If I wanted great mpg I would've bought an NC700 or a GS500 or a Ninja 250.
Not that mpg isn't important but I bought a 5th gen for the fun, power, reliability, fun, styling, and fun. Did I mention it's fun to go fast on this bike?
