Has anyone ever thought about punching a hole in the fairing on a 6th gen up toward the front of the bike in order to fix some pegs to the frame there right below the left and right radiators? I find my knees ache on long rides and having some sneaky pegs further up like that would be nice. I imagine there would be a way to extend the pegs out so they could be folded up against the fairing when not in use. Thoughts? Anyone ever done anything like this? Sacrilege?

Each to their own, but that IMOH would look the shits. I would, or more like should, consider punching a hole in my plastics for sliders but not foot rests.

I hear you on the knees but there are a few other things I do to give the knees a break. Well not a break but a rest I guess. I will stretch them out to the side with a hard stretch a few times being careful not to hit one of those reflectors on the freeway with your feet. Trust me on this one. That fuggen hurts. I will also throw my feet over the rear passenger foot rests for a spell, but I understand not everyone has the leg length that allows that. And I will also stand up a couple of times on the rider foot pegs a few times. That not only stretches the knees but also this wee bit of exercise gets the blood flowing in your legs again.

Be careful though. I think you would find that all three of these practices may be unlawful in many jurisdictions. They are here, but I have never had any problems. I think the intent on the laws that make this unlawful, is to deal with stunting, and this is not the reason I am doing this. I think it would be obvious if seen.

    I do the same things.

OP, have you considered the peg lowering adapters?

You might as well get a Gold Wing if you're gonna add front pegs.

Once saw a young lady on a CBR 600 getting some relief in a downward dog pose. It works great, stretches all the way from the butt to the calves and gives the knees a break.
Not a pretty sight when I do it though.

Interesting topic.......I know it might look strange but hey it's your ride so why not for your comfort. I have seen peeps doing many weird mods to their beautiful bike and make the bike look like :bs::scared: good luck and let us know what you come up with.

I got a tip from a mate once when on a big trip. On the long boring stretches of road have your passenger footpegs down & then swing your feet around & rest them there for a bit. I often just put my heels of the boots there. It's not good for long distances but it does give the body a bit of variety  Worth a try, works for me.

The spoiler is a customized MRA - basically the glass is bigger in width & height. It's great as long as I do not go over 130 km/h; after that I need to get myself near the tank like a rat :)

I imagine its hot near the radiator. But I like the possibility of a different position.

I'm tall and my knees bother me too on long rides.

How did you mount them? What are they made of?

So, thanks for the feedback guys, but I'm afraid I already know and do all this stuff. I tend to go on very long rides when I'm travelling cross-country (600-700 mile days is normal for me), and it would just be nice to eliminate the most uncomfortable aspects of it. A sargent seat is probably at the top of my list to be honest, so I wouldn't try anything like this for awhile.

On a side note, I'm confused as to why you guys think it would look so shitty to have tiny, folding highway pegs against the lower front fairing? When folded up they'd barely be visible, and frankly hiking your feet up onto the passenger pegs, standing up, lying down on a tank pad, etc - these things all look pretty stupid too. Hell, I'm tempted to see if the spot I have in mind would work for frame sliders and just put really big ones on so I could hook my feet over them!

Oh I haven't done this yet, it was just a speculative post. I am pretty sure it would have to attach to the frame toward the front and bottom corner of the radiator. This would, of course, require punching a hole in the fairing. Dunno if I'll ever do it, but frankly I think once you get over the whole not looking as cool part that it makes perfect sense.

Mine are made of a sturdy brass alloy and the ends are made by a not so strong abrasive material (forgot the name). They are hold in position by a threaded rod that pass through the engine replacing the stock engine supporting rod to the frame.
I thought of attaching pegs but after a while I find out is not really necessary
On long trips I wear some enduro/cross boots - Alpinestars Tech10 - so I can't feel much temperature change (one reason why I wear them during winter rides).
