I called a local dealer today to get a quote for going through the carbs on my 86' VFR700F. Which is something I've been putting off for a while; the bike runs fine it just has a few rather larger/gaping holes in power where it just seems flat. It also hesitates after accellerating backing out of it & then getting back into it( like when passing a semi ). Anyway the shop quoted me $65 to $95 per carb, is this a fair price? And yes I could do it myself for less I just really prefer to have some one who has done it before do it.

Its not alot if you have the money but no time. You might get a second quote as it seems a bit high.

Are they going to take the carbs out for you, or do you have to pull them and bring them in?

I've never had mine gone thru, so I can't tell you if it's a fair price, but I would check around though... I would ask around your friends and co-workers, you'd be surprised what you might turn up... I was talking about my bike @ work and found out that three guys who work for me have family that have their own bike shops. You might be 3 degrees seperated from a really good deal...

They would be pulling them, I know kind of lame being that I'm a mechanic(diesel) I just really don't like screwing with carbs. Unless its a single mikuni or it say Rochester or Holley, maybe even Edelbrock somewhere on it.

15 years ago, I jetted the carbs to a 86 VFR 750. The jetting wasn't too hard, but reinstalling those carbs between the V-4 and getting it to seal was one B!@#ch of a job.

I suggest have a pro do it for you and save yourself from a head ache.

I had North Valley Honda quote me 208 in labor plus the kits and parts to go through mine 4 months ago. (Bring the bike in and they do all the work.) But, I saw no fun in that, so I did it my self. (83 dollars in parts and a day of learning.<New swear words to get the carbs back on>)

Sounds about right. We charge 1 hr/carb. to clean. If they need more work it could run a bit higher. Depends on the labor rate at each shop. Ours is $55.00/hr. Hope this helps.

Probably more than half the irritation of going through V4 carbs is just getting the dumb things out. :smash:

And the remaining irritation is putting them back in. :frusty:

Don't forget the cost of parts - Honda only offers a carb rebuild kit - about $25 per carb.
