    Hi everyone :)

I'm going to make an onboard computer system in my bike. 'Looking to share and get help with these and new ideas:

    - old smart phones Vs. dedicated micro pc (Raspberry Pi)
    - side/rear video
    - link to phone for data (wifi/BT)
    - Speed
    - Tach, Temp, gas, oil, lights, etc
    - HUD in helmet or otherwise
    - more

    My first question is,
How can I get the readings from the standard sensors like tach and temp into the pc or phone screen readout?

    Thanks for the help,
    J

I can tell you how to hook up a small refrigerator and a TeeVee tuned to the Oprah channel to while away those empty miles of boring scenery.

Added to the other stuff, any more might be considered overkill.

See if you can get a bike specific OBDII style bluetooth shunt to use with the smart phone... I use one for the car, sends all the info to my Torque app...

Thankee Jesus for things like flatscreen TeeVees and all the various teeny-weenie electronics. Otherwise we could be texting weighing a ton instead of at the ton. Or for just plain old low tech buy a Harley.

How about intake manifold pressure sensors hooked up to the carbs, polled by a PIC or Arduino and displayed on a small LCD?

We do it a bit differently. A long cable hooked to the bike and a real dynamometer.

Having a cell phone helps too. Ya stop , call the wife and have her relay the readouts and the stuff she needs from Walmart.

Your FULL attention while riding belongs upon your surroundings, other traffic, and road conditions, NOT on an extra digial display of any sort. It's foolish, imo.

Sent from my Fart fone from up my ass while riding.

The 'man has a point, which is why I like gage needles and dislike LCD instrument panels, which always take me too long to 'process'. Conventional gages just need a glance, and you can look back up at the road as your brain digests the info. But I would like to have voice command of a chaff/ball-bearing dispenser sometimes...

Well that's what you get for talking out your ass--lol.

i think you can use the cereal port to read rpm's, temperature and eat m&m's too.

There is an app for that but i don't remember the name--think it had something to do with a 3 lb sledgie.

This one is really getting confusing. How can a closed mouth be a cereal port?

Wow, what a range of comments :)
My goal is not for just another display but inclusive of many worthy features.

I'd like a spot to secure my phone or 2 phones.
My current dash is a bit chewed up. Not too bad. Still usable.
I'd like my phones to charge.
I'd like to record data over time to see patterns and changes.
    I'm fixing up a fixer upper :)
I'd like the pc or "brain" to run other lights, etc on the bike.

    All good points though.
    Thank you, kind folk.

I don't think there is a OBD for this bike, and the connectors all seem too basic to be serial or anything familiar.

Seat vibrators are analog devices. Look for ads online or closings of the "Motel $1.99" or the "NoTell Motel" chain for coin operated mattress vibrators. These go quickly as the harleydoods snap them up right away.

A feature that wouldn't work for a bike but will be nice for my electric car is the ability to automatically change speeds by GPS and speed limits when on Cruise Control.

    I don't like speeding tickets.
