If you wana have a plethora of demos available to yah, you have to go to Bike Week in gaytona.

Its really amusing seeing the "bar & shield" crowd cueing up for rides on metric cruisers and then after the ride is over, walking away scratching their heads in amazement.

Triumph used to promote demo-days pretty heavy aboot 6-7 years ago. The bad-arse Triumph truck would come into town and the entire street was closed and the bikes were lined up handle bar to handle bar. Matter of fact, someone crashed a nice Rocket on one of those test rides. So, shite does happen...Best to find a salesman that has the model your interested in at the local bike shop, unless they are posers like here in South FL and have people in the business that don't even own a bike!

Not sure if this help but on a ST forum there is a 2010 VFR for sale with bags in Missouri for $10400

Not sure if I can post a link but here's the text of the ad and a link for pix.

    2010 Honda VFR1200 DCT $10,400
As some of you know, I just bought this bike a few weeks ago. I have been admiring the VFR1200 since it came out. I think it is a beautiful bike. I love the drive train and DCT transmission. Unfortunately, it is not the bike for me. I am too big to be comfortable on it for very long. I'll have to cede my desire for a sporty bike with the sporty ergos. The bike is in perfect condition. It has 3400 miles on it. It comes with grip puppies, center-stand, HeliBar risers

    For Sale

Also I agree the price is still high.

Here in Canada bike cost more and I'm considering a new left over 2010 dct for &9999

I just brought a used (it has 186 miles on it!) '10 V12 with factory hard bags and center stand for 9K
so I think your overpaying just a bit.

it was to replace my stolen '03 SV1000S i brought the bike a week ago and have been going back and forth between the insurance co and the place i got it from. All i want to do is ride this thing!

I went to Full Throttle Motorsports outside of Lansing yesterday. They have a 2010 with just over 2,000 miles for $10,800. They would not budge on price, but they are willing to give me $4,500 on my Buell. I know if I sold the Buell on Craigslist the most I could really hope for is $5,500, and I don't have to go through the hassell of selling it. I know every one seems to be getting used for under $10,000 and some with hard bags, but also some of you paid list so I think I'm going to pull the trigger.

If I get it I will post up some pics on Monday.

    Cheers
    Brad

There is possibly another element that hasn't been mentioned. Some dealers have Honda Floorplans to finance the inventory and depending on the terms, they may have to pay out a demo bike. We used to be audited by Honda on a regular basis and if a bike had miles on the speedo, we had to write a cheque. I've heard the same with sleds but it really depends on the terms of the financing arrangement.

my dealer sold me my VFR with zero miles on it and 7 months of warranty used up because they said it fell under Honda's demo ride plan...i still think it was fishy and was turned down flat by Honda when i inquired thru them...the better biz bureau refered it to honda and they weaseled out without an explaination...time to reopen this can of worms

Same thing with my '10. The previous owner bought it "brand new" with only a couple of miles on the clock and had it for less than a year. The factory warranty already expired by the time I bought it. I am sure somebody's book was cooked to get that bike sold cheap. The previous owner passed on the savings when he sold it to me, so I can't complain.

So I did it, no funny deals got the price we both thought was fair. They did talk me in to a three year extended warranty through zurich. I can cancel at any time and get a prorated return. I figured ride this summer and then cancel if unused. Pics to follow, need a zbomb like yesterday, but overall impressed.

Whats the deal with the gas gauge and fuel milage? Only had the bike two days, on my way to work and the gas gauge starts flashing empty. I am concerned because I don't know how far I can go, but when I filled up I still had over a gallon of gas to go???? I am not expecting any sort of good gas milage, but light flashing at 120 miles?????????

That gallon if I am reading right is reserve. Tanks on VFRs are flat, the initial reading is basically analog. The red light is a reminder that you have +/- a gallon left. Overall mileage is dependent on how ya ride one of these beasties. On the slab at 55 or so mine gets (roughly) 40+ mpg.. up in the mountains in the twisties it can drop to 25mpg or even less. With those hot Buells somehow I don't think you are dogging the VFR...;)

The upside is that you will always have nice fresh gas in your tank...and of course our support in your hour of need..

That is unfortunately the nature of the beast. I'm currently 1200 miles into a 2400 mile trip on mine and yes, it still drives me nuts. It can run through two gallons of gas before the gauge comes off full (all bars lit, nearly half a tank gone). Then it starts sinking like a stone around 90 miles into the tank. Then by 125 - 130 miles in, the low fuel warning starts blinking. Once the gauge starts blinking you'll want to find fuel in 35 - 40 miles. Avg mpg for me has been about 35 with 28 being my worst and 42 being the best, but I only got that ONCE! So yes, the fuel gauge is only good in that you know you have 35 - 40 miles to go once it starts blinking, and yes, the bike has a big appetite for premium unleaded. Love it or leave it, it is what it is. But congrats on the new bike. It's a great platform to build off of, and once you're done tweaking it to your liking, you'll be very happy with it. I was NOT a fan right out of the box, but after much fiddling I'm thrilled with it. It's been a real trooper on this trip and an absolute HOOT in the twisties (Deal's Gap/Smoky mountain region)...you know...aside from that whole fuel gauge thing.

The thing to do is fill up and take off somewhere, ride until you run out of gas, push the bike to the nearest gas station and never worry about mpg or the analog eccentricities of motorcycle gas gauges again.

As of today, this is not something you want to do near Las Vegas or Death Valley

Whining to Honda is not going to do a bit of good.

Hope that that gas station has Jo-jo's which can be refreshing after pushing any bike a mile or three.

Write anecdotal posts that start out with a bitch out of some silly stuff that is common to most anything, turn the post into a happy tear jerker and then delete the whole thing and forget about it.

    Pay in cash.

Forgot to mention, whilst out riding the boonies, I do have a quart of fuel in the tailpack right now. It might not seem like much, but could make all the difference in the world. I use one of those aluminum cans made for camp stove fuel. Packs nice and small and doesn't leak. Thankfully haven't needed it yet this trip.

Congrats! I'm surprised that you sound surprised about the gas gauge and range - arguably the #1 complaint topic. :deadhorse:

I usually stop every 100 mile or so regardless of fuel capacity. I just did a 550 mile day ride today. On the way back, I went 150 miles on one stretch and my aging lump of biomass let me know loud and clear it didn't appreciate it. Last bar started blinking at 140 mile, which is typical for me cruising 80-90 mph, frequently 100+ when passing. I get just shy of 38mpg doing that. If I gun it a bit harder, it might drop to 36mpg, but I've never seen less than 35. That's with Givi V35s and top case. If I play schoolboy and keep it below 80mph, I easily get 40+mpg.

I, for one, have no use for a bike with 200 mile range, when "my" own range is only 100-150.

WOW I am sorry that my post was so offensive!

I was not whining or bitching necessarily. I have read through many post about fuel mileage, but never about the blinking fuel light. I was more commenting that the light came on around 120 miles, I rode 20 more miles, and still had a gallon to go when I filled up. So I could have rode another 35 to 40 miles.

Again sorry for offending the internet gods with my observations of a new to me motorcycle.

    Would :homer: eat these???

Gas gauges are so over rated. All you need is a trip gauge clicker that you can clear upon each fill up...Thats all I-Yam-Saying :simle:
