The 1986 VFR750 I picked up was modified for racing and the previous owner shaved off the rear passenger foot pegs (saved a whole five pounds!). My lovely wife has just started appreciating this bike and wants to come along for a few trips. That's awesome, and I have found an affordable replacement subframe (cheaper than bolting on other footpegs - it will just take more work to replace the subframe).

However, while shopping I came across this "side grip pipe".
    Pic here

Can I use this? Anyone know where this attaches? A few online parts catalogs don't show this for my ride.

    Thanks!

That's the seat latch + luggage attachment rails. Won't help for your needs.

Hrm. Thanks. But now you got me thinking...will they attach? I figured it might give her added peace of mind (kinda). =)

What do you mean by this? That part is already on your bike, or should be. attached to the subframe and latches the set and mounts the rear signals. it also contains the helmet lock

I'm getting the impression that not only the footpegs were cut off.

Perhaps the side-racks were cut off too and I just haven't noticed. I'll take the seat off tonight and have a closer look.

    Sorry for the delay.

Yup. It was all shaved off. Comparing my bike with other, more pristine ones it's pretty obvious what was done. Anything hanging under the tail was removed, the plastic fender, license plate mount (a little plastic one was fixed on after), the rear signal mounts (ultrabright LED signals were installed inside the tail fairing). But I can now tell where the luggage pipes and the rear passenger footpegs were removed. All in all it looks pretty good like this - I just can't take passengers.

I've taken a few pics but they don't really show the damage. I think I'm going to buy the subframe after all and just get that going. This way the wife can come along for rides. Eventually. Heh.

    Cheers!
