The subject should read Dumb THINGS, not Dumb think....can't edit the subject.

I've done some pretty stupid things on a bike and other motorized toys.

-Ride on a Radio Flyer sled, laying down head first, pulled by a snowmobile at 60mph.
-Ride a dirt bike on a frozen pond.
-Ride a dirt bike full speed into a full grown corn field.
-Get hit in the forehead by tree branch and knocked off a bike (I was wearing a helmet).
-Use a nail as a cotter pin to hold a wheel on a go-cart.
-Super Glue leather patches in place of front brake pads on a dirt bike....it worked very well:crazy:!
-Ride as a passenger standing up on the back of a go-cart.
-Take a jet-ski into the ocean on my first time riding one.
-Put moonshine in a mini bike because we ran out of gas.
-Ride as a passenger in my brand new Dodge Daytona Turbo at 130mph in the rain because my friend was less drunk than I was.
-Let my drunk friend drive home from a bar (his car this time). He was behind the wheel working the gas and brake (all but passed out), I was steering from the passenger seat.
-DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. Looking back I'm thankful nobody got hurt because if this stupidity. I'm ashamed to say we did stuff like this....young and dumb. I've smartened up since those days.

Lets hear some of your stupid shift.

5 years ago my bike was at the workshop. Girlfriend's, at the time, brother, said 'Hey you can ride my bike until it's back!'
Oooo I thought. Me forgetting he has a totally bald rear tyre.
Ends with me going straight into a metal road side barrier at 50mph on my arse.

I have never ever rode without decent tread from then on.

At 62 years old I've done PLENTY of stupid stuff on wheels, but this one may be the worst. Buddy and I go to bike week in Daytona in I think 1974 or 75. I was riding a '74 Norton Commando 750, and my bud was on his S2 400 Kawa triple. We get a campground located maybe 10 miles N of Daytona, and meet 3 guy's, all with Yami 650's and decide to go into Daytona that night to party (all of us). We get 3 sheets to the wind and ride back to camp at about 3am. Now the campsites are located between A1A and the beach, and there is an L shaped asphalt road that run's through it. I HAD to park my Norton on a hard surface, but I get the bright idea to reach the asphalt by riding my bike right through the campground in order to check out my tent and make sure no one has messed with it. So, I idle throught the campground, past my tent....look's OK, pull onto the asphalt and park my bike. As I get off and take off my helmet, I realize my buddy and our new freinds are pointing at me and laughing. I turn around and there is a guy standing there in his skivies, shaking with anger and saying "my tent!". I look down to see a rope wrapped around my footpeg....... I had snagged the guys tent rope and drug him and his tent maybe 20' through the campground! If it hadn't have been for my freinds I'm pretty sure I would have suffered a beatdown that night. And even though I offered to set his tent back up, he packed up and left. I've felt bad about that ever since, but I must say it's a great story to tell at rallies for sure!

Lastest stupid move, just yesterday. My son, a U.S. Marine returned yesterday afternoon for his 9 day pre deployment leave. I went to work as my oldest daughter was picking him up from the airport. Once a year we have an "open book" meeting with the CEO, pretty important in his eyes. In other words, DON'T BE LATE. In doing the last few items on my "honey do" list I realized I was just a tad late, so I hop on the VFR, and head for work.......good thing there was no popo out because I was FLYING making up time. I know I exceeded 100 mph several times. there is a "falling away" right hander as you turn onto the street my business is on, and as fun as it is, I'm pretty conservative on my rides to work, but not yesterday. I approach the corner hot, hit the brakes hard, letting off as I tip in.............and......... I lost the front........but..........my years of racing dirtbikes kicked in and I saved it.....barely. A real wake up moment for certain..........rode home at a normal commuting pace, get off the bike, out comes my boy, picks me up like a rag doll (I'm 6', 185lbs) and hugs the crap out of me (he's 6'4" 220lbs). Great ending to close call day!
My son is itching to go for several rides while home and I can assure you we'll be a LOT safer than I was yesterday!

Flame away if you like, I deserve it.

+1 to grabbing to much front brake on a corner.

Tested deep water fording capabilities of commanding officer's humvee.

Spun all 6 wheels in 5 ton truck on asphalt, replaced transfer case not long thereafter.

Was fastest speeder ever issued a ticket by Sheriff Baxle at the time an 18 year veteran of law enforcement. 135 mph in a 55 zone on my VF1000R.
The man was sympathetic to Marines & because I stopped without him chasing me he graciously did not arrest me. Lost license for a year & I deserved it.

The dumbest thing I ever tried was when I tried to cross a river on my old Honda CR125 dirtbike. It was a very small and narrow river and I drastically miscalculated the depth. I got about half way across the 20 foot wide river when the bike stalled and got stuck. Me and two friends tried to push it out but it was really stuck on the sandy river bottom. The bike sat there for almost 30 minutes with nothing but the handlebars above the water until my friend came with his truck and tow chain and pulled it out.

ok this isn't me. Buuut there is someone on youtube (sure he won't mind me posting this), with a video I think fits perfect here.

Would you take a vfr greenlaning? (Green lanes in the uk are like, unmaintained roads. Old lanes where anything goes).

"-Use a nail as a cotter pin to hold a wheel on a go-cart."

The leftover piece from a pop rivet works better

"-Super Glue leather patches in place of front brake pads on a dirt bike....it worked very well!"

I once glued the brake shoes back with contact on my TY175 trials bike. It didn't work very well and they came adrift. Your front wheel locking up while you are bombing down a dirt road is not fun! Thankfully "bombing" on the TY was about 60km/h.

Watching that video reminded me of the time I tried to take a short cut along a footpath near my daughters school on the GS500. Way past the point of no return, I got to a slippery off camber part only to realise that the other side was a 5m drop down to a railway line! It took me about 10 mins to cover 50m, all in full view of the main road during rush hour.

We used to use my XL125 to pull my buds around on their skateboards, had some fun until one of the guys hit some sand!

Another time a friend and I were swapping driver/passenger positions while riding, again on my XL125, never crashed but we did questioned by the campus security when we parked the bike and went back into the school. We did the last exchange in the school parking lot returning from lunch.

As far as a "green lane" ride, I didn't intentionally go to one, but the road I went on turned out to be, the farther into the road we went, downed my 900SS on it!

bear with me for this one guys its well worth it....

i got together with a stunning lady, blonde hair, legs that went all the way up excellent assetts etc etc... id only known her a few months before we hit it off, things were good =)

it was a saturday afternoon and we'd had a great day she'd taken me out for dinner we'd had a few drinks and i decided as she'd treated me i was gonna take her out to the nightclub i worked at. we get there and i end up having to work, she's cool with this as there's a few people there she knew so i left her to it and got on with my impromptu shift. nothing interesting happens until about halfway through the night 30 or so police officers wander in with a little doggy, i'd worked there a few years and seen quite a few raids before so i just carried on doing my do and took no notice of the drug squads arrival. im half paying attention to the crowd of punters and coppers and half on what im doing when i notice the pretty lady i'd brought with me dissappear into the toilet..... thinking nothing more of it i carry on then all of a sudden she's asking me for her jacket as she has to go..... she has 2 of the biggest coppers ive ever seen in my life with her (and im 6ft tall)

they arrested her with cannabis resin, crack cocaine, meth and about 50 or so ecstacy tabs...... i had no ****ing idea at all! i felt a right **** and got the **** ripped out of me mercilessly at work for months

on top of all that it turned out she was a bit of a bike too.......

i had a nice moped when i turned 14, by 15 it was pretty trashed, rolling down street in town, throttle wide open, 32 mph she starts chugging, look down and spark plug behind front tire the cap was coming off, misfiring, of course, just reach down and push it on. wrong choice, throttle still wide open w/ right hand, left hand touches the plug cap. instant numbness whole left side, went over on my right side slid on my back down road, felt great. almost like movies, im just laying in street, had helmet on looking up at the sky, hear some steps on gravel and above me appears this old guys face. ya im ok, got up, limped my moped home.

moped was mint when i got it, by the time i turned 16 the muffler was tied on w/ a coat hanger, all the turn signal were broke off and it barely ran, poor moped, think it wa a tomas?

well, 90+ in a 30, with a group of 7 or 8 of us. Nice night, was back many years ago. Bunch of Harleys turned and headed down the 4 lane 1 way to downtown Davenport, and took off pretty hard, which got the guy next to me going, doing hole-shot, back it up, hole-shot, back it up..he had an old built up 1000, but I don't remember brand. Yamaha maybe. Anyway, light turned green 5 or 6 of us took off...hard. the other 2 saw the undercover cop car. (Bottom of the hill is the Davenport PD). I looked down, was doing well above 90, thought to myself this is really stupid, so I backed off. Got passed by a Dodge Intrepid. OK, follow the car. Got to the bottom of the hill..red light. Mind you, there are lights every block. We make it to the bottom without incident, but then the buildings lit up around us. PD #2 (passenger) jumps out looks at one gut and yells (which I can remember quite clearly) You (not me) You won the race! over there! and you too (still not me) over there as well! At this point I decided that he hadn't told me to stick around, light was green, so I high tailed it home. Just lucky as it was about the time when the bars close, so Im sure the DUI's were out.
