Hi all. At the moment I'm doing my rear brakes and when I took off the left side caliper a little clip fell out and I have no idea where it came from. Anyone know where it goes? I'm going to try to post a pic but I'm on my phone.

    Thanks!

The small teeth on the back side doesn't sit in the middle piston does it? With the back of the brake pad sitting on top of it? I'm so lost :(!

Here you go. I misspoke earlier, the short side goes on the piston side of the caliper. See if this make a difference.

Damn pistons are still on back order so I bought a whole rear caliper on eBay and with any luck it'll be in by this weekend! Along with my Two Bro carbon fiber exhaust! BTW, it was Penske shock that I bought, not an Elka.

That's a tensioner clip for the pads. When you install the pads, that pushes them against the guide pin and rear mount points, so they move square and don't rattle/bind when moving.

I have always had good results just cleaing the old pistons with a bagged out scotch-brite pad and have re-used brake seals that were as imaculate as the heart of Jesus under a magnifying light. If the seals look nasty and gouged up, you will have to pop for new ones (I would have used new ones on my viffer, but couldnt order them at the time.) The pistons should not be that pock-marked up unless the bike was sitting under the ocean for a while.

Take your time cleaning the caliper, VHT makes some nice caliper paint too, I use the same pad to clean the bores in there and be careful with your picks and scribes as you dont wana score the part that the seal sits in...Cheers.

In my case the two outer pistons were nicked pretty good. Kind of looked like an axe hack mark on a log, a little "V" shape pattern, I used some fine grit sand paper and got the lip off of them but there's still a deep groove in them, so ultimately I felt better about just replacing them. As far as cleaning them, I gave mine the once over twice!

Does this mean you'll want to come over and help me drink them?

Not sure how others feel, but I say, pay it forward or as Long suggest, a case of IPA works too!

    Cheers!
