Hi everyone. I am looking to buy my second bike. The VFR 800 is at the top of my wish list. Although I am looking for some information about issues and problems with the bike. I am looking at an 03' or newer.

I know Nicky is riding the Duck. Although he got his AMA, and Moto GP. crowns riding the Honda

Welcome to VFR World my Canadian friend!

On a 6th gen of that vintage you need to check for the wire harness recall to make sure it is done. The do have some charging system issues so maintenance history is good to know with respect to battery , stator and rectifier unit replacement. These bikes tend to surge due to funky fuel maps and benefit from the installation of a power commander and the removal or blocking off of the PAIR valve system. Actually opinions vary on that but I have seen benefits. If you can find a bike with bags and heli bars you will be ahead of the game as they are expensive. Higher mileage units have been known to develop cam chain tensioner issues but not all bike have this issue.

Good luck and tell us where you are from in Canada. Perhaps the members can help you find a deal.

    Hey Haydenfan

Welcome to the World from another fellow Canadian, albeit one from the west coast of our fine nation. There was an 06 listed here last week that has less than 30K on it. Bike was pearl white, new tires, and a Sargent seat and owner was asking $6500. I realize that Kelowna might be too far away but I thought the price comparison might be worth mentioning. Since Kelowna is a relatively small town (150,000) and a tourist town, our prices seem to be about 10% higher than big cities like say, Vancouver. There are lots of bikes to be had and if you keep your eyes out, a well priced is bound to show up. Or like Scuba mentioned, bringing one up from the US can sometimes save you a few dollars. Bringing a bike in to Canada from the US can present some challenges but sometimes the hassle can be worth the extra effort.

All the best and good luck with your search.

Actually that is a good price compared to what I checked on via Kijiji Ontario. An 06 or newer start at $6500 area. One was $4000, but it had front fairing damage. From what I can see the bikes do hold their value well. 2003 in Windsor is $5500. What Scubalong says it seems prices in Ontario for an 06 are on the very high side. I have been to Kelowna long ago. beautiful country up there.

Yes our prices are quite high compared to our southern bretheren, probably 1500 - 2000 high in many cases. Probably because we paid a crap load more for then from the dealers. I just don't shop here anymore :( which is sad but my wages aren't going up so ya gotta do something if you want to keep playing.

If I were you, I would search Craigslist in the states.

Thanks for the advice. Yes. Living in a boarder town does have it's advantages, and my wages are not going up either. I first have to sell my current bike though. Only room for one ride in the garage.

Slick looking ride there. I am keeping mine posted, and trying to sell it. Just too many low ball offers on it. Thanks for the welcome.

PARDON, only room for one ride in the garage. Poor fellow. My garage holds 7 bikes and a trailer. Ok, Ok, I must admit that 6 of the bikes are pedal powered and the trailer is a Chariot (for towing the kids, uh well, now it's for the miniature Daschund named Buster) but heh, they are bikes right!! LOL My wife was thinking about getting a bike for herself once she gets her license and the Ninja 500 is in the front of the running for the bike of her choice. Too bad you weren't a bit closer.

No worries my friend. You obviously have a great sense of humor. As for the ninja 500. Great bike to learn on. Check the web site for that bike. Lots of tips on it. Just make sure of one thing you fix on the bike. Is the bolts that hold the starter clutch to the fly wheel were not tightened with red loc-tite. It happened to me. It is the cost of a gasket, and an 18 mm screw to pull the fly wheel off during an oil change. It happens as the bike gets higher miles on it. If you want more info on the bike feel free to ask.
