I know the music sucks- but today I decided to pull the Twenty dollar paint job from the bike and shot it with two gopros doing a timelapse.

If anybody is wondering about Plastidip not being temporary, I can assure you that the finish after I pulled the dip was exactly how it was when I sprayed it.

Did you pull the plastics off the bike when you sprayed them? Tank?

    I might try this!

I left the tank and front fairing on and pulled the sides and rear cowl.

I've always been in question to the actual quality/durability of this stuff..
How does it handle little rocks and such that may fly up from the roads?

Cool. Do they sell a clear coat ? Could it be used to protect the tank from scratches by coating the lower line of the tank ?

Glad you asked. Yes they do have clear but it is a matte finish. I have used it recently myself. I seem to kick my seat cowl and top of my newly painted hard bags so thought I would give this stuff a try. It goes on easy and comes off equally easy.

But what I did find out, was that if an edge catches on anything is starts to peel back right away. Depending on how you apply this to your tank, you may be able to over come this. I ended up peeling mine off my hard bags. I only did the top of one of them to try it out. If I had covered the whole hard bag, then maybe it would not have started to peel. Maybe I will give that a try seeing as I have the product and all it will cost me now is my time.

I was thinking about doing my tank, but I think I would have to do the whole tank as opposed to just a portion of it. Otherwise it would tend to peel back from the edge again. Like I said, it comes out in a matte finish. With your bike being white, it is barely noticeable from 10 feet away. A darker colour would of course be a different story.

If this stuff peels back maybe this stuff could be applied, peeled back some on purpose and cut like fringe to give a bike that harleydood look.

You may not want to use the clear matte finish though.

I just got this stuff. To recent to give it a final grade. I put a single piece on each side of the tank where the knees rub and a couple of strips where the crotch rubs. The side cutout was easy, I have a template so if you'd like to try it let me know and I'll post it. The crotch is a bitch, because there is so many curves there that you cant get it flat, so you have to do it with multiple pieces. From 4 steps away you can't even tell the stuff is there.
I put a strip at the edge of the cowl cover because when I swing my leg around I tend to hit it there.

I don't know what you were using but my plastidip came both in a can to be dipped into or applied with a brush, or in the case of the stuff I used on the bike, an aerosol spray can. You must be using some sheet product.

I found that majority of my damage that I had to hit with touch up coats was on the right of the rear cowl were my boot always hits and at the base of the tank where my riding pants are.

I also had consistent damage where the seat makes contact with the tank, but it wasn't visible with the seat on.
