    Hi Guys,

Went down the coast from Sydney (3 hour ride) to visit my Ma and Pa. Dad (80 years young) has history riding motorbikes from young age, thought I'd give him a thrill. Got him a helmet and gloves and put him on the back of the VFR 750 (1995)... all good, we had a great 30 min ride .

Then, my mistake. I said 'have a go' and pointed him down a country road expecting him to be back in 10 mins. . . .
30 mins later, I hitched a lift with a local farmer and found dad a mile down the road having tried to do a U-turn, gone up a gravel driveway and laid the bike down scratching and cracking RHS fairing.........lucky he was OK, (but a bit 'shaky'). .

Yes, my fault, but I thought he could make it down the quiet country road and back. . I was very nice to him ( while my teeth were grinding, haha)

Anyone else 'lent ' their bike to someone else and come to regret it??

    Cheers,

    AussieGeoff

You kinda have to let your Dad ride your bike if that is what he wants.

Same thing happened to me, I took my shiny new spotless VFR home a few weeks ago (first road bike mind you), let dad ride it since he is the one who taught me, and he tipped it over at a stop sign, broke the mirror and scratched up the right side. He was Ok but I don't think I will be letting anyone touch my bike for a long time.

I feel bad though since my uncle had a '85 VFR back in the day and if this didn't happen I'd let him go for a spin, but like my dad he is in his 50s and hasn't ridden in years...not taking that chance again haha.

Good on ya for letting yer pops have at it. It sounds like he was riding ok, but was just having difficulty negotiating the turn around on a gravel driveway. Especially with how our viffers are "big-boned" girls....if yer pickin' up what I'm puttin' mate! Next time, be sure to get some crashbars first!

We had a meet up at the dragon a few years ago and one of our members brought his grandfather Burt. Burt was 80+ years old and rode his Suzuki Boulevard (I think that's what it was) all the way up from Florida, rode a few days with us, and rode all the way back. I hope I have that kind of energy if I live that long.

The only person other than me who rides my bike is the mechanic after he services my bike.

My dad is about the same age, I'm 25, he's scarcely ridden since I was born but made a point to get me started early.

Thing is, he owns a Harley so he thinks he's hot sh!t even after 20+ years but him dumping my VFR took him down a peg I think
