I found "flaking" or "cracking" inside the crankcase cover

    Curious if anyone can tell me what this is? It's sharp to the touch. Looks weird. Should I worry about it?

    Sand casting of a metal part leaves a rough surface from the mold, with sharp scales and flash on the surface. You can knock it loose or file it off or polish it too, if you have time--just be sure to get all the loose debris cleaned out. It's not pretty, but it doesn't show, and the factory didn't want to spend any time or money on it...

    Exact and to the point answer! Messing with it might leave residue/dust that might get into the oil. I would just leave it alone.
