    I have a torque calibrated right-elbow.

    Would anyone buy a used vee-hickel from the original poster?

    To be fair to the OP he has done what he set out to do - warn against using a hammer to tighten bolts or nuts.

    I also think the OP is right - you can use a hammer to achieve very accurate torque settings.
    There are a few things you need to know;
    E=MC squared
    M Is mass of hammer (must know weight)
    C is velocity of hammer (must know speed at impact)
    which gives you E, the energy of the hammer when it strikes the spanner
    To find out the torque applied to the fastener there are a whole bunch of engineering calculations (which I remain blissfully ignorant of) to do with the length of the spanner (leverage), weight of spanner (inertia affects calculation), and possibly smaller calcs to do with follow through of strike, squareness of strike to fastener.
    I guess that with enough time and effort anything can be calculated or you can just spend a hundred bucks on a torque wrench and get accuracy in seconds with no calculations needed.

    Had to replace the titanium window on this beauty Memorial day. You don't touch this without a torque wrench. The window has 90 bolts torqued in 4 steps and then verified with one torque wrench. You want to see someone have a ship fit, head in the vault with a hammer. We use matco torque wrenches and replace them once a year. That is every 3 windows. I started 40 years ago rebuilding a 62 olds f85, with a 215 CI all aluminum v8 4 barrel. I used a torque wrench then and use a torque wrench now. I can get close without using a torque wrench, but for me close isn't good enough.

    I thought you knew what you were talking about....until I read that line. C'mon dude...REALLY? you want to extend the swingarm 3" because it "looks nicer". Nevermind it fucks the handling all to hell. You sir are a SQUID.

    I'm very happy you are ok though! You lucked out...and I'm checking mine in the garage right after this!

    If you want a long bike because it "looks nicer" then buy a long bike. Don't screw with a classic!

    Anyone want a HammerTorque(TM) Swingarm for cheap? Fits 1986 VFR 750 F and probably 1987. May fit other models with minor adjustments. Buyer to confirm.

    (½ E=mv^2) , we aren't converting uranium into raw energy here... :tongue: You also need to make an allowance for a portion of the 30% recoil of steel as the shank of the spanner would distort once struck - this recoil is normally a detrimental effect in the loss of energy however in this case it may act to multiply the energy applied to the stud... The Shock loading of the stud and the effect that has on the softer metal of the hub in terms of the mechanical bond can lead to weakness at this point... :smile:

    The ones towards the front are obviously inch pound wrenches;
