only a moderate amount of arm pressure is required to achieve the 75 ft/lb max of this Snap-on torque wrench

OK, I am late to the game and kind of skimmed over the ranting and raving so I might have miss this but has anyone pointed out that the nut in question is threaded way up the stud? This would have allowed fewer threads to hold in the hub. Just a thought.

    Sorry, just saw lshark's comment.

He might be using a Clymers or Haynes!

Or possibly the book "RN Motorcycle Mechanics"

I have nothing usefull to add and I will refrain from flaming the OP as it will obviously fall on deaf ears regardless of weather he's still subscribed or not. This thread is ammusing the shit outta me tho!!! To the OP, if you're still listening, I am glad you didn't end up on your lid!!

Glad the OP was not hurt. I don't wish that on anyone.

Of course the less obvious solution is to get a generation VFR with a single sided swingarm. Problem solved.

In a critical application, never reuse self locking nuts. Nylocks will lose over 50% of their grip if used a second time. I don't remember how much stover nuts loose but it's a good percentage.

Things that make your nuts come loose...

Maaaan I actually gasped out loud when I see the picture of the swingarm. Whatever the cause (which the debate is still ongoing it would seem) that is one hell of a trophy you have there.
Friend of mine changed the back wheel on a bike a little while ago, but forgot to put the wheel spacers back in, done the same sort of damage to his swingarm.
Regardless of how it is done, and we have all done silly things mind you, glad you and the bike are ok and it wasn't an expensive problem this time around unlike some other things.

I myself have brake disc in my garage which is wafer thin in the middle due to the rear brake being used with no pads in the caliper...might turn it into a clock...

Great article on bolt science. What we need now is the same info on sledge hammers although IMO and the opinions of others should include never using a sledge hammer on your nuts.

Even 'slight' over tourques can distort the surface or profile of what you bolted down.

OMG other than the OP's original misfortune and luck that he didn't get hurt this maybe one of the all-time greatest threads.

Could this scenario be why Honda went to the SSSA on the VFR? I'm just saying.
