Just a short note to say hello,

I've been without a decent machine for the past few years - mostly making do with couple-hundred buck, "drag 'em home and fix 'em" machines as I save for my FJR... which I have done FOUR times since 2003. Yesterday, after completing a greuling ten-month stint of graduate school, I finally quit holding out and watching my FJR money morph into family vacations, orthodontics for the kids, home improvements and car repairs. Instead, I rolled a portion of the fourth iteration into this 46,500 mile, '00 Interceptor. It's sweet, and smooth, and really solid. A new chain, tires, brake pads, and even a set of banged-up Corbin side cases came with the deal. So, even though I don't yet have my FJR, I *do* have what is probably the second-nicest bike I've ever owned thus far. (My first was a 1989 VTR Interceptor.)

...and boy, does it ever scoot when you crack it open in the first three gears! It's great to be back inthe saddle. I look forward to learning more about this machine. In fact, my first question is: Do they offer handlebar risers? My head is stuck in the turbulence zone and it's awfully noisy in that helmet. An inch or two upwards and the slipstream is whisper quiet.

    -Dan

    {edit} p.s.: SHAMELESS after-the-fact edit to add one mediocre picture. Better ones located farther-down the thread stack. : {/ edit}

Hey Dan. I put the Heli bars on my 07 and it gave me a bit more of an up right position. I'm on the shorter side, 5'8 and would have liked a bit more pull back and rise than these offer, but they are an improvement. I would like to try the convertibars as they have lots of adjustment to them but I don't know how much more is available before you run out of reach of the stock cables and hydraulics. I also have installed Poligrip internal bar/grip heaters that would have to be changed as the Convertibar is either solid or only hollow to a point(can't remember). Anyway maybe someone will chime in that has used those and can give us the real world differences. Congrats on the new bike. Better post some pictures of that bike quick before the forum regulars(I use that term loosely, ha ha) flog you!
    Shiny side up
    John

    Welcome aboard
Helibars are the most popular. There are simple aluminum blocks that go under the stock bars, but I forget what they are called. The Convertibars do have the most adjustment but you just don't hear that many folks talking about them.

A picture of your new machine would be nice.

I put a thread in the 5th gen. forum about the Spiegler style conversion I did on my bars. It is an AWESOME upgrade. Put on a bar mod. and a Sargent seat, then have your forks and shock re-worked by Jaime D. At that point, you might very well have that one bike you keep until it just won't go anymore.

Welcome to the yellow brotherhood....and the the FASTEST color VFR

GenMar risers is what Drewl was refering to. I had them and they help, sold them and went to the HeliBars and a Sargent seat. It's a totally different ride now!!

Congrats on your find and welcome! Jealous types here are loathe to admit yellow is indeed the fastest.
I am coming off a Concours prior to the VFR so I got spoiled with the wind deflection and upright position you seem to be looing for.
As mentioned +1 on Genmar risers, Helibars, and a touring screen.
My current screen is a Double Bubble style but I hear rumors my gently used Givi is on its way south. The wind off the top of the DB hits me right about chin level, 5'10".

Looks like you got a very clean well maintained machine, kudos.

When I got mine a few months ago I loved the sound. The more I ride it the more I like it. I just can't get over that v4 gear cam v8 sound.

Just do us a favor and paint that tweety bird red. You can pick up a rattle can at walmart for $.97. It's a really cheap upgrade.

Very Nice there Dan, and by the way you SUCK. LOL I really wanted a yellow VFR when I was looking to purchase my latest VFR but all I could find was a really slow RED one, Go Figure. I had heli-bars on my 97 VFR and they definitely made the bike more comfortable for me (I'm 6'-1" and 175 lbs) and I also had the seat custom fit and re-upholstered to make it more comfortable. The other thing that quite a lot of people do is to fit a slip-on exhaust to the VFR to better enhance the fantastic sound of the V4 engine. I got my exhaust (18" slip-on) from Delkevic USA and it sounds great and it was very in-expensive. I was able to find the exhaust listed on their eBay store and I think it was less than $150 for the slip-on and the link pipe.

Welcome to the WORLD and be forewarned, now that you have ridden a VFR you may be spoiled and may never want to own any other kind of bike. Not that we here at VFRWorld are the least bit partial,.......... NOOOOOOO, certainly not that.

Congrats! Yellow is the best color.

I also am new to the club. I just got my 99 about a month before you.
I'm still fixing a pile of problems left to me by the PO so it's not even seen the road yet.
