While installing the Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator Kit on the 6th Gen, the hardest part of the whole process is fastening the license plate light to the new mounting bracket. There is literally no room to get your fingers back there to secure it.

Here is how I got it done. Using a 7mm open ended wrench, I taped off one side of it, then placed the nut in there. The tape not only prevents the nut from falling from the wrench, but also allows you to place downward pressure on the nut as you are trying to get it thread. There is just enough clearance in there (without having to remove the exhaust), to get the nuts started on the threads.

Once I came up with this quick hack, I had both nuts on in less than a minute. Previously, I had spent 15 minutes trying to do it by hand which I quickly realized was impossible, then another 15 minutes trying to come up with a way to make it work. Hopefully this tip will save some of you the same heartburn.

I certainly will as soon as I get the bike back together. I'll also post some pictures of my '86 500 and 750.

It really does. I originally wanted to just shave the reflector off the stock fender, but decided not to since it would look too much like a hack. After installing the kit, it looks so much better than I thought it would.

0 Miles. The weather has been terrible here in NY. With the current Noreaster that we're getting, they are calling for 9 - 12 inches of snow over the next 24 hours. It's looking like cold, rain and snow through next weekend where it might get into the 50s. At least I can go down to my basement and stare at it.

What prevents you from doing this? Is it the shock adjustment on the right side of the bike? Does that mount behind the passenger pegs?

I can't believe I didn't think of that! You are right - that was the worst part of the entire install and your fix will cut the install time down dramatically.

The comp werkes eliminator kit is in the mail. Now we need to put our heads together and figure out how to get those pegs off an ABS model, maybe fab a little bracket? I am going to look at it when i get home... wow it looks sick with all of that extra hardware off the back end...
and stewartj, your bike is spotless!!! Oh man, this new england riding gets the bike funky looking fast, even with a good cleaning, looks like I have more cleaning to do! Where is my toothbrush....

Would it be possible to relocate it to the mounting point for the right side passenger pegs, once you removed it of course. Those bolts are 8mm. Looking at a picture of the ABS setup, it looks like it might work.

Yeah, that's because I don't have any miles on it yet! I just got it all re-assembled, then we got dumped on today from that Nor'easter. We got a foot of snow today. Like I said, at least I can go down in the basement and stare at it. And by the way, once I do put miles on it, it will remain spotless. I'm pretty anal about that. So, how about getting those passenger pegs off your ABS ............

Whoa! Saw your picture and thought it was my ride. Looks great! But then again, I'm biased. I also took the rear passenger pegs off. Sure did change the way it looks. Hope the weather gets better for you soon!

This relocation is completely possible. My '03 (bought used) was given to me in this state, with the passenger peg hardware in a box. It's either a huge coincidence, or someone at the Big H was thinking ahead.
