Amazing how this dude is able to recount all the factors of going down, all the excuses, justifications, running on the sympathy ticket and how many coats of wax on that bike all in a couple of paragraphs. Dude needs a dirt bike mostly..

Any pics of the damage to the bike OOTVS?

It looked like a really slow, neat slide but since it was on rough stuff I have this image of sandpaper'd fairings.

Nothing damaged on you or the bike?

I'm actually traveling at the moment and do not have access to my computer where I have a photo of the damage. The right side got "sand papered" pretty good but nothing that can't be fixed. Other than the brake pedal getting busted, it was mostly cosmetic. Although some of the video makes it look like we were hauling it was a pretty slow drop. There's not a mark on me or my leathers!

Ouch, all it takes is a little dab of the brakes & the marble shaped gravel does the rest. never been into that type of riding & most of the guys I know that can tackle them usually have lots of experience. They never use their brakes (so they reckon) & they also believe that you get along at speed (to glide over the rocks). When ever I have taken on anything like that, I get this rash, about 2 inches wide down the middle of my back & its yellow. I just creep along, besides, even if you make it, that type of stuff can do horrible things to your rims (& pride).

I have to ride 3 miles of Dirt, rock, sand clay road daily to get to the main road. Its a take it easy process. These roads change daily. Nothings a given. Glad your ok. Bikes can be fixed or replaced. It was a strange looking accident. at the start of the video you were moving along ok, then it Looked to me like you were trying to keep up with the bike in front of you which is a mistake. Im only making this comment on what I perceived which may not be fact. Like has been said shit happens. Three times is to many so just step back and evaluate each situation to figure out what went or what you did wrong. Thats the learning process. Believe me Ive had my share of accidents but only two on street bikes, the other 100  were in the dirt. Stay safe.

That says it all. I was pulling into my yard, riding my Norton. Not thinking I grabbed the front brake and in a split second I was on the ground. I was shocked at how fast it happened and I was going maybe 2 miles an hour. Gravel is unforgiving.

I keep watching the video over and over again and don't know why, but I keep getting the sensation that the rear left the pavement vertically. Did it?

I've just jumped ship from the adventure touring side and have put in several thousand miles on all sorts of non paved stuff. I didn't think you were doing anything unreasonable, it looked to me as if you we're slowing slightly for the upcoming corner, problay through engine breaking, it loaded the front a bit as you went through some loser stuff, it doesn't take much.
I'm starting to understand that the simularities, more theroretically then practically, of how sensitive you trackies have to be with the brakes and throttle when pushin the limits.
My condolences OOTVS, the gravel can be unforgiving at any speed.

When ya got a drum front on an old bike the voice of experience said to me that all roads ain't paved with asphalt and having the brake set up too tight is gonna dump you on your ass in the soft stuff when grabbing a handful.

Same goes for single disc front brakes on many Nortons. Tons of fixes for Nortons at the Norton Owners Sites across the big wide world.

Two kinds of riders: Them that's what not been down and them whats goin down.

The best thing is to blame the bike. That way no "image" is lost, or hint of needing a few more riding skills is necessary.

Here's a pic of the damage, purely cosmetic. I would say that if I can find another NOS panel for the same price as this one cost, the damage would be ~$300.00 plus whatever a brake lever cost. Although I think I'm going to try and improvise the one that broke. I think I can remove the bit that is still in the lever and put a new pedal on it.

As far as the rear wheel hop observation, I don't recall feeling that it did, but it may have and that would definitely have contributed to the rear locking up and sliding out. In regards to the "trying to catch up", what I was doing was letting some distance build up between us and then moving a little more briskly through, as I found that the slower I went the less stable the bike was. I was trying to carry my momentum as much as possible, but as you saw a little too much rear brake brought that to a halt. BTW, I do have a red sharpie, but its a fine point, so it's gonna take a little longer to touch up the scratches.

I think I know what's causing all these crashes on the Internet. They all have one thing in common- It must be the GoPro cameras...

    Glad you're okay.
