(Updated pics): Introduction, new bike (pics) and some questions

    Hello folks,

Just picked myself up a '06 with 25k miles. I've had a couple 954's before this. Wanted to get something that wouldn't beat me up as much on long trips. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this new (to me) bike.

The p/o installed the VFRness, which looks to aid with RR/stator charging issues. I believe the 06 was also not included on the electrical harness recall that the 02-05 units had. He also gutted the stock exhaust (sounds nice)

I plan to use this as my daily driver (round trip to work is ~12miles) and when the weather is nice, trips to Maine (260 miles round trip) on the weekends with girlfriend and gear. I have ordered a set of givi v35 hard bags and the associated PLXR mounts

    Couple questions:
Aside from normal maintenance (fluids changes and chain lubes) is there anything else I need to worry about? The coolant, oil, tires and battery were all change prior to my purchase. Just looking to avoid future issues if I can prevent them now.

Are there any "must have" spare parts to keep on the bike for road trips? I'm thinking at a minimum the included tool kit and some spare fuses.

    Thanks

    Robb

Since you mentioned that the harness issue was addressed, I think these bikes are sold except some cam noise that may or may not occur. Just keep riding..

Nice bike btw and welcome to viffer world.

Did you peel off all the stickers or were they already gone? It's a Honda...regardless, it will get you home. Even after being under water. Saw the thread.

And where do you hail from?

Nice "Night Rider" edition you have there!

Sounds like reliability has been addressed on your bike already with the VFRness install. Popular mods include, heli bars, power commander III or the new PC V with auto-tune, perhaps an aftermarket seat such as a Sargeant or Corbin, Cruise control via vista cruise or throttlemeister. The vista cruise requires some modification to work well and clear the fuel tank at full lock. There are some nice accessory power kits for GPS installs. I need one of these myself!

The clips don't fall out, they just don't like being removed for oil filter changes.
I got a bag of clips from my local auto parts store for $6 just last weekend!

Other than that, just fill her up and riiide. Oh and for you, matching black riding gear would complete the package nicely!

+1 on the tire plug kit with some CO2 cartridges for inflation. I've also been known to keep some "medicinal herbs" stashed under the seat for when I reach my final destination on those extra long trips LOL! Enjoy your new ride sir!!!

I have not measured the width, but I will next time I put the bags on. They will only be on for weekend trips up north. There are 3 mounting points and all the brackets come right off in less that 30 seconds with the trick PLXR system.

    Got both items at motorcycle-superstore.com

    Cases (matte black) $521
    PLXR mounts $219

Free shipping. The mount that goes around the license plate took some modification to the plate light to get it to fit (had to remove a plastic spacer)
