last oil change i used honda semi-synthetic oil. not crazy bout it and wanna go back to standard oil. a friend of mine at work says that once you run semi-synthetic or full synthetic motor oil, you have to keep running it. is this true? thanks in advance

no theres nothing written in stone saying once you switch you have to stay with it unless you switched from a yamaha or kawi to a viffer lol!!
all kidding aside the synthetic oil does not change anything about the motor to make it incompatible with dino oil.

Not with my vfr but with an R6 I had it was run for years with semi-synthetic. Thought I'd have a change and put fully synthetic in it and it run lovely...until the clutch started slipping...and after a month the oil went black. Might be different with a brand new bike but you will defo need to change the oil more often.

yep unfortunitely if you want the added lubricity of an synthetic oils protection its always best in my opinion to step up the clutch springs to the higher rate (stronger) springs to compensate for the synthetic oil. i run full synthetic in mine and had slipping issues untill new barnett springs took care of it.

You can switch to and back if you want. It's not going to hurt anything. Just don't use an energy conserving oil in it and you'll be fine.

I've run both, switched back, dino, semi-synth, synth, etc.

For the last 10 years I've run full Synthetic (Amsoil) and never had a clutch slip once with oem or aftermarket springs.

yea mine when i aquired the bike had an ever so slight slip to it and when i switched to full synthetic the slip became more pronounced under hard acceleration but didnt under normal driving conditions. but not knowing what was in there i decided if i was gonna pop the cover to inspect i'd rather change it all out because the barnett complete kit was very reasonable. hell the frictions and steels looked new but the springs were way under specs. whomever switched them out before i purchased the bike mustve never replaced springs. needless to say i have spare clutch setup minus springs for later on down the road lol
didnt bother me replacing it, it was peace of mind knowing now whats in there.
