Any of you with the OEM blue topcase happen to have a receipt or install sheet with the honda part number on it? I can't track it down thru my dealer, or the UK. Thought if I had a number it might help.

Is this something like you are looking for..

Honda XL1000V Varadero Full luggage set. | eBay

However its for a Varadero so the blue colour may not be the same as used on VFR's and it is over in the UK.

But if you look closely at the pictures of the varadero luggage mounting frame in this link it appears that the racks/mounting are similar to the OEM frame fitted to the VFR models.

Varadero Pannier frames - Honda Trail Bike Forums

The only issue is the pannier offset around the exhaust seems larger.

Well, I will say that the hard saddlebags look exactly like the ones for the 07 VFR800 here in the states. Same style and color.

Not sure WTF a Varadero is though. I have these hard bags already...looking for the topcase in blue. Wonder if they also make a topcase for the Varadero? Feel like asking your dealer next time you see him? Get a part number if so?

Oh...your ebay link did not work for me, BTW.

The link was to item number 261181695296 on the UK eBay site.

I guess the link is no longer live as the auction has just finished, or does Ebay.com prevent you from seeing listings on Ebay European sites?

I just checked the listing and it seem the complete matching OEM Honda hard luggage set in blue ( 2 x panniers and 1 x 45 litre topbox) together with the Honda mounting frame for a Honda Varadero sold for £150.

The Varadero is a big 1,000cc off-road adventure bike sold in the European market.

I will see if the local dealership can find a part number for the top box.

I don't know if this helps but they are made by Givi for Honda.

Part # on the side cases alone is P/N 08L51-MCW-100. Maybe the top case number is somewhere close to that. This is for my Blue OEM side cases on my 2007 RWB.

Sorry I don't have the top case.

I'd be interested in this too. I added the OEM hard cases last year and had trouble tracking down the OEM top case. I honestly don't even know if there is one for OEM.

wgregt - how are you liking the new bike? I hope we didn't steer you wrong.

Sorry but my local dealership were not able to provide a part number for the Varadero Terra Blue 45 litre top box - which was a colour choice available on the HONDA VARADERO 1000 cc XL1000 V-6 which was sold in Europe in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

They suggested I try a parts consolidating firm (who run a massive warehouse where excess dealer stock is disposed of - mostly parts for older motorbikes which dealers are unlikely to ever sell). Anyway I tracked down what seems to be the item here

    http://www.oemmotorparts.com/oem5.asp?M=Honda&T=XL1000V&Y=2005&L=HO-XL1000V5&O=TOP BOX 45L TERRA BLUE&F=HO-XL1000VA6-IV&L2=HO-XL1000V3-IV

But as you will see even they do not have any in stock - and I am not sure if the part number is shown on their fiche is the Honda number or their own.

So it looks like I have drawn a blank here, and if you really want to buy a colour matched top box then your best bet is to check European eBay websites in case a used top box comes up for sale.

    Hey StewartJ-

As far as the bike, I'm an instant fan. I've put about 1200 miles or so on it so far, and I think it's great. It is sooooooo damn smooth it's quite amazing. No drama, just goes about getting down the road fast & smooth. Had many a day where I'm zipping along to work quite nicely, and I look down...and I'm going 85+. And it doesn't feel like I'm a bit over 65 MPH. Just so deceptively smooth and fast.

It came with a slew of extras, like I said, so now I'm sorting out what to keep and what to sell. I have 3 seats: OEM, Corbin, Sargeant. Four windscreens, etc, so I'm going thru the weekly swap of stuff to see what I like best.

    Love the OEM saddlebags too.

As far as the topcase, it looks like, for us, there is only 1 way to go really. The part numbers for the OEM blue topcase are unavailable @ US dealers from what I can find out. I've called 3-4 here in SoCal, had all of them call Honda HQ, and there is no listing or part number (that I have come up with) for them. From what I can see, our best line is buying the bag in whatever color, and buying the paint from Colorrite.com, and taking off the lid and dropping off the paint and the lid @ a paint shop. Right now, the best price I can see is thru the UK for a red case. The paint is about $90 for half pint, which is more than we each need probably, though the spray can is cheaper. For me, I'd hate to get the spray can, use that, and NOT have it come out well, and have to re-do it.

Then there's the bracket. Sigh. As you probably well know, the damn OEM bracket is astoundingly expensive. Around $275 is the best I've seen online. Most dealers are well over $300. WTF? If you got the OEM bracket and the OEM red/black/white topcase, you're in (with tax) damn close to $800! Hell, the OEM saddlebags (2!) were only around $1k when new!

Then there's the "OEM bracket that allows a passenger" or "the one for sale from a lister here that doesn't let you carry a passenger" conundrum. The OEM one apparently makes the bike handle not so good too, while the lister-made one helps move it over the rear seat and doesn't have the handling issues. But, you can only ride solo.

I'd also want a topcase bag too, since I have the bag liners. You can go off brand cheaper, but the OEM one (not available in the US) is only from the UK for $60 USD as well.

I will say that I think it's really odd that Honda stopped making these. Granted, if it was $450 like the other colors are now, I wouldn't buy it anyhow probably, but it's odd that they just....stopped making it. Right now, I can't say for certainty that the OEM blue topcase even EXISTS. I was hoping this posting would bring some folks out who have one, but every post I've read on both of these forums from someone who has one, bought another color and painted it blue.

Right now? When I look at the $ I'd have to lay out, and paint it too, I'm on the fence. How about you? What options has YOUR search turned up?

I know what you mean about the impact on handling, but it is definitely something you can easily manage.

The simple answer is packing sensibly, and maybe adjusting the preload.

Basically if you have heavy things to carry, always make sure you put them in the panniers - not the top box.

The larger (45litre) OEM top box is pretty huge and if you get carried away filling it with heavy items you can upset the handling. Hence it is best to restrict its use to bulky but light items - for instance it can hold two full face helmets, spare gloves and rain suits, without any discernible effect on handling. Just don't be tempted to fill it with beers!

To provide room to carry a pillion, the OEM bracket inevitably mounts the top box behind the pillion seat. So unlike a carrier which occupies the pillion seat, if you carry loads of heavy stuff in the top box all that weight will be behind and well above the centreline of the rear wheel. The impact is a bit like a see-saw and will increase rear wheel load and lighten the front with obvious implications for the steering.

As for value - the OEM luggage has proved robust and waterproof in torrential weather. Whilst it appears that Honda dealers have stopped selling a blue top box I think the Honda luggage was made for them by GIVI. So you may find that if all you need is a top box then you might have better luck sourcing their equivalent GIVI top box such as this - Givi V46 Blue Luggage Topbox Topcase | eBay

The downside is the colour may be different and you would need to fit the matching GIVI mounting plate onto whatever carrier bracket you opt for.

According to Direct Line Parts the part number is: TOURING TRUNK, SPORT 08L55-MCW-120A and the page for the 07 Anniversary Top Box is here: Ohio, Florida, Honda, Parts, Accessories, dealer, Honda Direct LIne Their price is $400.75 plus shipping and then add in the mounting bracket etc. My local Honda dealer sold me mine two years ago for $ 400 including the mounting bracket. It is well worth the time to shop around for them and save a bunch of cash.

Glad to hear you're liking the bike. After adding the PCV, hard cases and heli-bars, I have no complaints.

I found pretty much what you're finding. Here is a thread from VFRD that gave me some good info:

Has Anyone Tried Oem Top Case Mount And Givi Case? - Luggage - VFR Discussion

Here is a YouTube video that shows a nice color matched top case with the side caeses:

VFR800 Vtec with Top Box - YouTube

I'd like to do this, but it is the price that I'm hesitant about, especially the fact that it would have to be painted.

Yeah, what he said. You bought an OEM topcase in BLUE 2 years ago from your Honda dealer? Surely you jest.

Yep. Cheapest I can find is about $200 for the case from the UK, $100 for the paint, maybe $100-$150 to have it sanded & sprayed, and then there's the OEM rack: about $300. All in, we're looking at $750 from what I can tell. Yikes!

Not sure if the colour is petrol blue but this website at least gives part numbers frr a genuine Honda blue top box

Honda NT700V6 2006 TOP BOX 45L PETROL BLUE M - Original Honda Parts | Lings Honda

part number for the top box is given as follows 08L55MCW850 - (08L55-MCW-851) - both seem to be items which Honda have officially ceased stocking. The website suggest calling them if you want to order the top-box. I don't know whether there is some sort of Europewide dealer stock monitoring system which will allow them to find a left over one - lurking in a dusty stockroom corner...

This place in Netherlands says they have three -

At 254 Euros and shipping cost from Netherlands, I would just buy the black top box from David silver spares and paint it when there are some scratches on the top box. I think the black looks reasonably well on the RWB and it is not like the box is going to be on the bike all the time.. Just my 2c

Yep. Red one is cheaper than black one though. Not sure why.

I got lucky for once. The red color matches exactly for my bike. The side cases are a different red, but for the price, you can not beat it..
