I've got a 6th gen r/w/b I just bought. Thinking about a topcase, if I can find one in blue, OEM preferred.

Just so I have this right:

One option is the topcase bracket made by a lister (Ken) that looks great and has rave reviews. This one mounts over the OEM seat cowl basically, which means no passenger and no room to strap anything to the rear seat from what I can tell.

The other option is in INSANELY priced OEM mounting bracket, which SEEMS to allow (can you guys with the OEM bags and topcase confirm this and maybe drop a foto into this thread?) me to carry a passenger OR strap something to the rear seat if I need to.

This all sound correct? Just trying to verify before I set this search in motion.

(Oh, and if you have a blue top case and want to sell it, I'd listen to that too!)

Yes the OEM carrier frame will allow you to carry a pillion and fit an OEM top box and OEM panniers securely to the carrier. Obviously you will need to remove the seat cowl. This is what the OEM carrier looks like fitted. As you would expect from Honda the carrier is very robust.

Whether the OEM top box/panniers are available in blue I don't know. But I am sure others on here will answer that.

But you will discover that if you opt to fit the OEM carrier frame, it requires a fair bit of wrenching and a few beers (about 4 hours the first time I attempted it) as it never seems to line up. The key is to only loosely thread the bolts, to leave some play so you can get everything to line up, before tightening anything fully.

You sure about having to lose the seat cowl with the OEM topcase + rack? I thought I have seen fotos with it still on.

Yes if you want to carry a pillion and for them to be comfortable ! But with the carrier fitted you can fit the cowl when riding solo...

This. I just installed the side cases and the top case few weeks ago.

Skimad4X4 - Did you end up using the bolts from the grab rail to install the top and side case racks? I tried to use the bolts that came with the top case rack, but with the small collars in place, they were very small to fit the racks together..

Its a long while since I first fitted the carrier, but I vaguely recall that some of the bolts in the kit were a bit too short/fiddly and I swapped them out with longer ones from my tool box.

Has anyone tried the SW MOTECH Alu-Rack with OEM side-cases? I'm wondering if those two are compatible since I already have the OEM side-cases. I desperately need something for my wife to lean back on, and it might as well carry some camping gear for me too. Thanks!

^ I'm interested in the same info.

I found this on twistedthrottle.com "The Givi FZ166 Monorack toprack cannot be installed with the original Honda hard saddlebags. If you want to add a topcase to a bike that already has the original Honda sidecases, we recommend installing the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack toprack, which is 100% compatible with all Givi Monokey and Monolock topcases."

Although, the Alu-Rack doesn't appear to have passenger handles built in...but can the OEM passenger handles remain?
