New season is coming up and am getting my '10 ready to go. i can't wait. One thing I like on long trips is listening to music but I found just listening on an iPod with ear bud headphones, that the headphone cables just keeps getting in the way or shifting out of place making them uncomfortable. Was wondering if anyone has had any success with wireless speakers or headphones. Or just a good setup for listening to some tunes.

I picked up on of those arm bands that joggers use to secure my ipod. Has the plastic see-through cover.

I strap it around my left forearm. It stays secure, and I hardly notice its there.

I run the cable from my ear buds inside my jacket sleeve, plug it in, and then secure my gauntlet gloves over the wire. This way nothing is ever flapping around or getting in the way. The wire is so thin and flexible, I don't even notice it.

Its easy enough to access for quick song selection or to mute it. Its not waterproof, though.

In the event I crash my Honda, the ipod will be the last thing I'm worried about.

I use the Scala Rider set up, everything is wireless (blue tooth); iPod, radio, phone & GPS. It bounces back and forth all by itself. Once you set it up it connects automatically....pretty slick

I've tried various earbuds inside my helmet, but always found they tried to take my ears with them when removing my helmet. Now I have helmet speakers installed and I just wear my normal ear plugs. I stream music via bluetooth to my Scala rider and listen to music that way. I can also stream my voice nav and phone calls to it, although I haven't really tried it for phone calls. Had a Bluetooth Chatterbox previously, but it was starting to fail, so I bought the Scala Riders on sale for a good price around the holidays.

yes the scala rider is the way to go....great audio quality, bluetooths right up...itunes or Siriusxm on phone..... experiment with speaker placement though,..i added some foam behind the speaker to bring it closer to the ear ...this greatly increases bass response...( shoei q-west)

i talk on the phone all the time with the Scala G4...answering is easier than calling, unless you have the voice activation thing happening on your phone...most people don't hear any difference...people ask "what are you doing" and i say 85mph on the bike and they can't believe it....bike to bike comm is nice too...and adds a big safety factor when riding in groups

+1. I keep my Thunderbolt on a RAM stem mount and can see the NAV and hear it via bluetooth through the Scala. I also hard wired a micro USB plug to the factory accessory port to keep it juiced up on trips.

If your iPod has a bluetooth then you may want to buy a helmet with integral bluetooth - so no wires. I don't know if the Viper Motorcycle brand helmets are available on your side of the pond, but if they are available, then their Viper RSV131 helmet might be a good answer to listening to music whilst riding. In Europe they are mostly sold via the web so its hard to find somewhere to try them for size. I was lucky as a friend had recently bought one, and was happy to swap helmets during a ride. Anyway the size was perfect and I was so impressed by it I went out and bought one.

I know loads of people insist on paying the extortionate prices demanded for brands endorsed by Stoner, Rossi etc, but surely what really matters is not the brand name but, whether or not it will protect your head when you and your bike are sliding down the road. (Especially as parts for many big brands are sourced in China.)

Lets be clear Viper brand helmets are made in China - which will doubtless result in some immediately dismissing them out of hand. But they have been tested and passed the UK and EU helmet testing requirements, they are also been approved for use by the British Motorcycle Sport Body and have a decent Sharp safety rating. So as long as you are not a brand snob, and you find a size which can fit your head shape securely, then they are a decent practical helmet which comes with a whole host of built in features including Bluetooth 4 which will allow you to listen to music as you ride, without all the hassle of wires.

I am curently on my third Viper helmet (I don't work for them and don't have shares) but I have found the RSV131 helmet is a great choice for me, and great value for money. I found most helmets are not designed for people like me who have to wear glasses. The helmet is a decent flip front helmet with an integral dark visor which works fine when wearing glasses. The wind noise is not bad for a flip front, and the ventilation and padding is comfortable on long trips. The downside is the helmet weighs 1850 grams and the instructions are hopeless. The extra weight is basically due to the flip front mechanism and the integral speakers and bluetooth system.

The rechargeable battery is good for 10 hours use, and recharges from flat in 3 hours using a mains charger. The bluetooth can pair with two external sources simultaneously (GPS and Ipod/Iphone) and can also pair to another Bluetooth 4 helmet allowing bike to bike or bike to pillion talk through.

I often ride with my iPhone in a tank bag paired to the helmet. It only takes a few minutes to set up. As I ride I can listen to music which is interrupted as necessary by GPS directions from the TomTom App, it can also handle phone calls on the move - although I always ignore calls, and call back once I find somewhere safe to stop. By channelling everything through the iPhone it only uses one of the bluetooth connections. If I am riding with a group. its easy to use the other connection to set up a link to another rider however the quoted 1/2 mile range is very optimistic.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

There are top tier Helmets like AGV, Arai, and Shoei for a reason. They do the development work for airflow, crash worthiness, light weight, etc.

Look at all you hi-tech snobs with your VFR1200 using the Scala rider set up. :)

See, us old school guys with gear driven cams and chains do it the old fashioned way: make a clusterf*ck of wires and run them wherever we can.

    Snobs.

I have heard that someone is developing a sphincter operated volume control for these mini-entertainment centers that will be used on racebikes and may even see the light of day on streetbikes someday.

According to my sources, yes. The trailers that will hold the satellite dishes are being fabricated in North Korea by Rodman Inc.
