Hi, i'm looking into getting my 2nd bike. I started riding a little a year ago, and my first bike was a 1993 Honda VFR750. I want to get a newer vfr now and i'm looking at a 2006 vfr800, and just wanted some opinions about if this may be too much, especially if anyone has owned a 3rd and 6th gen. I put around 10k miles on my 750 and never had any problems handling it at all, but i know the newer bikes have a ton more power than the older ones. I'm 22 y/o, 5'8 140 lbs by the way. Also, just any opinions on the 2006 vfr800 would be great too. Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you have time on a '93, you'll have no problem with an 800 any year.

I am 5'9 and 155 and I fit nicely on the VFR800. So you should not have any problems.. Except for the wiring harness recall, these are pretty solid bikes..

If your IQ is over 90, you should be fine, regardless of height and weight.

And sounds like you meet that requirement just based on the fact that your asking.

    Go buy it.

+1 you will be fine. The power is very similar. Besides you control the speed right?

Thank you for the responses. Does anyone have an opinion on a bike i'm looking at, a 2006 vfr800. Has 15k miles, looks pretty clean but i can tell it has been dropped on both sides, scratches are very small and the clutch lever looks bent. The dealer is asking about $6,000 plus tax/fees and seem pretty firm on the price. Does this sound like a good value? Thanks.

p.s. heres a link to the bike im interested in: 2006 Used HONDA VFR800 Interceptor Bay Area Motorcycle at SF Moto Serving San Francisco, CA, IID 9877988

The main difference you'll notice between the 3rd Gen and 6th Gen is the handling. The newer bikes are much more refined. The 800 does have more motor than your 750, but it is not a huge difference.

I'd wait on that bike. $6K is way too much and it has been tipped / dumped on top of that. Even if it was mint, $6K would be too much. I'd keep looking.

Lastly, when I saw your screen name, I thought that you might be Justin Barcia. Are you a SX / MX fan?

Boy they sure put enough pictures in that ad. Like stewart said i would pass as well on that one. I have seen rwb 07 with abs and factory side bags for almost that much. And in near perfect condition. With a little patience you should be able to find a very nice 6th gen as there are a lot of them out there. If you really want to be a vfr purist though find you a 98 or 99 vfr 800 in red of course. Lol

Now your talking. Gear driven cams no v-tec gadgetry and its red. Seriously though thats a fair price for that 99. The 5th gen is a great bike but if i could afford a 6th gen i would go for that. I personally for myself would look for a 6th gen with the factory hard bags included. But i also like the looks of the 6th gen with the undertail exhaust and exposed rear wheel etc.. cant go wrong with either one though. Good luck

He's a dealer. He didn't pay $5700 - no way. Be patient and you can find one in mint condition for that price or probably less. Keep this thread updated with your findings.
