It seems like the forums are a little slow here. So is the other VFR site forum. Is it because it's winter? I'm on Suzuki forum and it's been busy all the time. Just wondering???

another month or so and the forum will erupt with, "my bike isn't charging" and "my bike won't start after sitting all winter" threads.

Maybe some of the dudes who might post here, don't because of the tracking that goes on. I bought a photo filter from an ad on CL.. got a great deal and in my hood to boot. Looked up the online price on Amazon and the next time I posted here up comes the fucking search query from Amazon..

Fuck all the explanations and geek shit too. I'm calling BS on this one.

Interesting. I don't know what a photo filter is . I use Ghostery that blocks all tracking if you elect to. Don't know. Seems to work.

I can't speak to exactly how any of the big brother stuff may operate but I do know this; in a free maket, the site doesn't operate without funding. Advertisers pay to support the site if you chose not to (by paying a small subscription fee to become an Insider).

Advertisers work hard to target the correct audience. So if you chose to see advertisements by not becoming an Insider, you should be thankful that the advertisements you see match your interest as opposed to a mess of tampon ads. I guess an arguement could be made..... Oh, never mind

I do know that this thread, now having mentioned maxi-pads, will now likely display ads for feminine hygiene products for some of you.

    You are welcome.

In the spirit of reciprocity, a photo filter is a chunk of sometimes very pricy glass that screws onto the front of a camera lens. In this specific instance a 62mm Nikon Polarizer. I'll see if Ghostery busts this shit..

    Gracias..

Is there one particular brand that is recommended or liked? Might this exceed the tires and oil threads if given sufficient time to develop?

IMO in future there could be a combo oil filter and you know what.

I was not pleased with the last polarizer I bought. It would appear that they are not created equal and like most things, you get what you pay for.

I have wanted to put a polarizer on the GoPro.

Didn't know you were into the photography BB? How about sharing a picture for once?

I shot the pic of my mach 1 91..;) Same deal on a pic of me Beemer.. That one is on Rich's Seats in the vintage section. Yeah, another plug, but Rich is a bud and does fine work.. No BS, I have seen him rip out and toss a whole cover that had one bad stitch..

I once showed some pix of some of the stuff I used to do to buy the beans and toys. Nice compliment and all but some SOB used the pix to get biz. I was not the only one who this asshole stole from..

OK ..Ya got polarizers and ya got polarizers. Two kinds to start with.. circular and linear.. Most used for still pix made by major players are circular. The polarizing film is sandwiched between glass and that part of the optic rotates in a track that is threaded to fit the various final diameters of a given lens.

One other use for a polarizer is as a neutral density filter with a range of about three stops. There is an old wives tale that a polarizer will stop all reflections.. Not so.. not even close. The empirical test is to shoot something like a glass vessel using nearly any type lighting. Sorta-kinda works but far from 100% cutting out all reflections.

Caveat! I am not up on what is best for videocams.. Some have polycarbonate lens' or lens elements and since the subject and in the case of GoPro's where both camera and the subject may be moving a given polarizer may not be the best deal. Wish I could help more but my use videocams of recent is really not up to date.. This does not make polycarbonate (anything) bad, it just is one of those things that is.. Most of us who wear glasses of any kind are wearing polycarbonate. In a nutshell mixing polycarbonate and polarized light can be like Martha say, " a good thang" or as I might say, "Oh Shit!"

Adding to this, some vid cam lens' rotate internally and some rotate externally One thing may cancel out another or just not do much good at all.. Bet there is more on this on the net or from some of the guys (gals too, being the PC maven I am) that shoot video. Most of the newer vid cams have smaller final optics and so a good polarizer in a small diameter shouldn't cost an arm or a finger.. Best deal on new photo stuff is Adorama.. (IMO) never ever had a problem with that outfit and most of thier shipping is freebies. I see just today that B&H also in NYC has followed suit..

My choice in "glass"? Nikon.. I am a true believer..

I can hear the incoming from the "Canons" as we speak.. ;)

Latest artsy-fartsy pic..? a 3X4' B&W print (no greys) of a macro shot of a USPS postage stamp of Miles Davis wih all but the words "Miles Davis" Photoshopped out. Purposely pixilated and rendered from a RAW original to a tiff so as not to lose pixels.

    I also shoot film. I have a classic Zenza-Bronica that uses 120 or 220 film..Yep,it's got a Nikon lens..

Shoot Nikon myself but have not enough experience to claim one brand is any better than another.

All I've found for the GoPro is folks are taking a polarizing film and laying over the lense. Maybe in the last few months since I've looked, someone has started marketing something. Too bad for me the big brother advertisement machine isnt allowed to stalk me.

As for the original topic of the thread, wife and I scored a kid sitter for the afternoon. Heading to Lyons Colorado for lunch. First chance the woman has to try out that new custom tailored seat.

Comparing electronic cameras is best left to the pros who are not on the payroll or some dude in a camera store who is getting spiffs for moving one thing or another.

My first good camera was a Nikon. Actually a Nikkormat I bought used from a guy. My second Nikon swas a Nikkormat EL the guts of which were essentially a Nikon F . Shot hundred of rolls of KC 25 ect. The camera was so good I had the shutter rebuilt when it finally expired. Dropped it..Rats.. this only happens once and the bye-bye. Bottom line is that +/- 99% of all Nikon (Nikkor) lens' as far back as 1947 are usable on the larger DSLR's. ie Nikon has not changed the configuration on the bayonets since 47 or thereabouts.

This is usable info for long time shooters who have old glass and also is advantageous in picking up very pricy, even at the time, glass for little money. Got a non AI (auto index) Nikkor f 1.2 at a junk sale for five bucks last summer. Got the camera too; works fine. An f1.2 lens is pricy made by anyone. As far as I know Nikon does not farm out their glass and it's still made in Japan. (??) I have lens' that are from the 1960's that work on my big Nikon DSLRs .

D300-D100-D40X- and two Fuji Finepix S3 Pros. So changing ponies in midstream would like trading in my VFR for a Harley.. Ain't gonna happen!!

    Google up:

    gopro polarizers.. Lots there.

Most of that polarizing film now comes from China and is linear and of poor quality. The coating is an iodine base and by nature fragile. Ergo the sandwiching between optical glass in a rotating securing device is IMO your best bet. You will find good solid standardization in the threads too. Both the 1/4-20 and 3/8 threads on camera bases are actually Whitworths. One Leica that was built in c. 1920s was sent to the US Patent office for patent rights had the same thread. Wish I had that camera. I could buy a shitload of bikes, a Nikon or two and maybe even have a fiver left over to pay for not having to see those intrusive fucking ads.

Nikon, Canon, et al are way more than just camera manufacturers They are optical companies. Everything from process lens' to spotting scopes, refractor telescopes, microscopes, optical analysis instruments. If you have ever been to a planetarium chances are that the projector was made by Minolta or Leitz.

    I now take my seat..

Does that sign really say "25mph" ?

This tracking shit is getting out of hand. Up popped an ad for one of those so called download sites where the downloads are attached to all kinds of add on's, more trackers, "servicers " that no amount of erasure can get rid of and who knows what else? The one's that sometimes don't even have the specific download wanted. Maybe a few folks bailing out of here will get the necessary attention to kick this shit to the curb.
