I don't know much about the Isle of Man race, but if it's more about endurance, why couldn't the VFR 1200 or 800 compete? Is there a class that they could race in?

There is, but finishing dead ass last is not in the Honda scheme of things. Plug in "Isle of Man TT" and find more than you really want to know about the TT.

The only VFR that would be competitive would be my mach 1 91.. with one of the fast guys here aboard causing pucker marks in my seat material.

Yeah, after watching it for a bit [while at work tee hee hee] this afternoon on youtube, I realize that it's an all-out speed war. Never knew that they'd be running flat out for such a long period! Couldn't the 1200 be tuned to compete with that? In a lighter chassis? Maybe it becomes an issue as to what they are accomplishing by doing all of the mods when they already have the inline four of the CBR1000?

That race would be awesome to see in person.

Street courses and bike racing are done in Ireland. There is only one "Isle of Man." Street courses in the US for cars.. Houston and Long Beach for just a couple. A few years back there was a street course on the Washington Peninsula. A guy went down on a 125 and was killed. The race had to be shut down because any fatality at least in the State of Washington has to be investigated by various law enforcement agencys.

Do some web searches, there wasa guy who wanted to run a 5th gen on the Island when they were new, but he couldn't get the slot for some reason. He was a TT racer, so was pissed when it didn't happen.

Well OK, but only if you can meet two conditions.. You have to get 12K miles out of a set of skins and get no less than 70mpg.

They are running totally different classes of bikes and the VFR1200 or any incarnation of it, would not work, at all. It's too heavy, it's shaft drive, has linked brakes, etc. Read up on motorcycle racing and you'll understand.

Check out a map of Vashon Island just off the coast of West Seattle. The local vintage enthusiasts (VME) have a non racing event there and have for many years. Basically a 37.5 mile poker run, bike show, concours, various field events including Australian Pursuit. The Islanders would shit bricks but be first in line when the money started rolling in. The major hurdle is the editor of the club newletter who I am sure is Grand Kleagle of the CAVE People..

    CAVE= Citizens Against Virtually Everything..

The club event is "The Isle of Vashon TT" .

People are too chicken-shit to come to come to Africa these days, think the race is now held in Argentina or somewhere.

More a combination of safety for the riders, drivers and support crew and of course "local" politics including kidnapping, ransoms and the general run of crazies in that part of the world including SA.

Added to this insanity is the drain on funds from the various politicos from some damn stone age nutcase to the more "democratic" stealer out to make a buck at any cost.

Do try to be a little better informed on your next attempt..this last effort really sucked..

The rallye is now in Peru. Redbull is the sponsor. More poop on the Redbull site.

I love my VFR but it could not even come close to my CBR in race performance.

Do try to be a little better informed on your next attempt..this last effort really sucked..

Please note I said "....THINK the race is now held in Argentina or SOMEWHERE.", I was not presenting that as a fact.
I was born and raised in Zambia and have lived in SA since '87. I have also travelled through or visited Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana and Zimbabwe, so I doubt I could be any better informed about what it is like to live in Africa. I do agree with many of your points, but to tar an entire continent with the same brush is the same as me saying everyone in America owns 15 guns and shoots up schools and cinemas for kicks (sorry if I've offended anyone, I don't mean to make light of such tragedies, just making a point) . Besides, I'm sure hurtling through the desert at a hundred and plenty miles an hour presents more of a risk to a rider than any kidnapper/hijacker/dodgy politician could ever hope to.

Apologies to the OP for going off topic.
