Ok, so the pictures of splitfin's gauges inspired me. My new LED's are on their way in the mail, so now my gauge lighting (even idiot lights like neutral, high beam, turn signals, etc...) will be all LEDs. Before and after pics to come.

On a side note, when the VFR headlights are on low beam, are both headlights on low beam? Currently, only my right beam (as seen from the rider's point of view) lights up on low beam. I assumed it was supposed to be this way, like the old GSX-Rs used to be.

They both should be on....one side might have a burn out bulb
All four should be on when you switch to hi beam.

Ok. so the low beam on the left bulb is burnt out. Replacement time. Do you have HID headlights? Looking at the HID kit sold by Wiremybike.com which is made by DDMwith the built in delay. Is is worth the $155?

I also noticed I am jacking my own thead. sorry.

The kit he mentioned is a dual bi xenon. Has the time voltage relay to turn on hid1 and time relay to turn on hid2. Ddm does not even offer that lol

In order to change the bulbs on the instrument cluster, does the fairing have to come off? I think I got a bulb or two burned out.

Check out this thread there is a whole bunch of info on the topic within:

5th gen blue gauges - Modifications - VFR Discussion

It is where I found this list of bulbs needed to do the 5th gen:

That has 1 spare bulb of each included. Not a good idea to do the FI light, might make it flash too fast making any code impossible to read.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have a 5th gen. Sounds like I have a headlight bulb out on low beam only. Now once my dash is done (bulbs should be here tomorrow), I have to decide on HID lighting.

Is HID worth it? I would likely get the dual bi-xenon with the time delay. I should probably have started another thread for the HID topic.

Yeah it is worth it. I am ordering the same kit soon because I so not want to risk breaking my headlight to install projectors :)

Replaced just left hand side bulb with a green LED for side by side comparison.

    image.jpg

Dash with all green LEDs installed. Big difference, especially on the LCD screen. Also replaced turn signal indicators and idiot lights with appropriate color LEDs, but not the FI light so it can blink codes properly.

    image.jpg

Probably cost only $25 total which is worth it to have brighter dash not have to mess with it again. Ever.

Finally did this mod, but not to the turn signals or other indicator lights. Before I swapped all the LEDs to solid blue, I tried these rainbow ones I found :):

Last winter I replaced all bulbs in my 3rd gen dash to led ones. I used red leds bulbs with leds pointing also sideways for the gauge light and for the indicators white leds with the lens. I think the watts were the same. After reassembling things I found out that green indicators (turn and neutral) look more blue than green, so I have now replaced those with green leds.
