A pair on 500 minceptors in OC, Ca.

Hello all,
Recently got the opportunity to grab a pair of 85 500 interceptors for 500 bucks. They both run, have titles, and are on non-op here in Cali, so I should have no problems riding them. Of course they need the carbs cleaned and fluids replaced, the usual stuff for bikes that have been sitting for awhile. Hopefully, I can learn some more specialized tips to working on these bikes. Glad to have found what seems like a deep and knowledgable community here.

First, Welcome to The World! Secondly, where in OC are you? I'm at the North end of Anaheim. If your looking for help, I'm sure they'll be plenty of people that can lend a hand (physical or virtual). Squirrelman seems to be the guru here if you're talking carburetors. Hopefully you'll have no trouble getting them registered here in CA.

I will try to upload some pics I took off my phone last night when my roommate and I got them unloaded. Pretty cramped in there with his Sportster, my cafe yamaha XS750 and now these two puppies. Only got a one car garage. Oh well, will be start wrenching on the good one tomorrow and prob do the pinesol dip with the carbs.





The second pic is of the good one. It starts and idles. As soon as you roll on throttle it dies. The first one I was told runs, but the PO lost the key. So its a parts bike for now.

 

Cool, yeah I grew up in Anaheim Hills but now I live in HB. I've lived here pretty much since junior high. I will be sure to shoot squirrelman an email if I get trapped in a dead end with these carbs. Thanks for that.

 

Good find Bud. Just a thought before you start and wrenching on either have you thought about swapping the ignition barrels over to test the other bike which supposedly runs. My bike was in storage for a long time until some Hoodlums came along and tried to steal her(luckily she had a wheel off and they got bored so only smashed my sisters car in and stole my 125) Long story short I had to replace the ignition and if I remember rightly its two screws and one electrical plug. Its what I would do first anyway. Good Luck

500 is a steal with titles.. I wish I can find deals like that!!
