Keep in mind that insurance in Ontario is tied to the area you live as well. I live in Durham region, and pay $851 for everything but collision. My Pl/PD is only $65, but we also need accident benifits, they are an additional $377. I am with PC Insurance.

I'm roughly $1,000 but that is for downtown Toronto, and it actually goes down each year (never thought I'd get to say that)..

I am with Primmum through TD Insurance. I am paying $1100 with collision, but no comprehensive. I paid $1300 (no collision) last year since it was my 1st year back to biking after 10 years. I tried RBC insurance as well and they are around $800, but I was not qualify since they require at least two years of insured experience (current experience, previous not count!!). There is a lot of discussion at http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=30609 about bike insurance.

Man you guys should count yourself lucky. In BC the compulsory, just third party liability minimum amount comes to about about $850 then any optional like collision theft etc is another $600 per year (private) or about $1400 through ICBC and that includes the maximum no claims bonus. If I did it all through ICBC, the government system, it would cost me $2250 a year. Enough to replace the bike every 6 years. Don't you just love "fair state controlled insurance"?????

Well I go through an insurance broker in my home town. The company they get the insurance threw is Economical Insurance Group out of Calgary. I get some special discounts because my entire family insures threw the same broker. I also have an AMA Motorcycle Driver course certificate which gets me an additional discount.

Around $800 in the Niagara Peninsula, Ontario.
Originally got a quote from Kingsway for $1,700 as they were classing it as a sport bike. Switched to Jevco and got the rate above. I think you are good with $800.

I'd have to disagree with the people here who say ICBC doesn't offer fair rates. I have insured both motorcycles and automobiles in both Ontario and BC and have found ICBC to be FAR better to deal with (speaking of both the rates they charge and the claims they pay out) than any private insurer in Ontario.

Quick story, when I first moved from BC to ON I couldn't even buy insurance. It was shortly after the government froze insurance hikes and nobody, and I mean nobody wanted to sell me insurance. I had no accidents and I had the full discount with ICBC before I left. I couldn't believe that I coudn't even buy insurance in ON no matter the price. People were simply not selling insurance because they were waiting for the government freeze to wear off so they could jack-up rates. I literally rode transit and/or my bicycle for almost 8 months before the government freeze wore off and I could buy some insurance. I never ended up making a claim, but I heard horror stories from friends there who said trying to get anything out of their insurance providors after an accident was nearly impossible! And what's with that ridiculous policy that if you live in a house with roomates they must be on the insurance policy therefore allowing the providor to jack the rates sky high?

ICBC usually goes simply by the blue-book prices on bikes and cars so while you usually never make money, you generally get a 'fair' pay-out in the event of a totall loss situation (of which I had two-neither my fault).

I used to complain about ICBC before I moved to ON, but since I've been back home in BC, I see things much differently now. People who complain about ICBC, IMO should see what it's like trying to deal with fully privatized insurance provinces.

All that said, I will end up paying less than $900.00 this year including collision/fire/theft and that covers me for a full year (including storage insurance and up to $1,000.00 in my riding gear should it be damaged/stolen - knock on wood). This is based on a mutually agreed upon declared value for my 1998 VFR.

Northern vfr thats great that you think icbc is fair , i just dont share your opinon. in the lower mainland you pay higher rates than other parts of BC wich is fair. the cost for me to insure my 05 full safe drivers discount is just under 900 for full year no collision no theft only basic insurance 2m liability, i only insure for 8 months so i do pay less. for full coverage its close to $2,000
with icbc. i use private insurance for collision and theft only $400 for full year. I would say you are paying to much for your optional insurance through icbc. i pay $1300 for my truck full coverage with icbc worth more than 2 times the bike that dosent make sense, i guess icbc considers bikes a high risk. At least we still have the option to shop around for private insurance for non madatory portion.:pout:
